Sony makes the worst.
You have to have a base for the extensions to work. The prices for all sets vary, depending on where you get it from.

Well, first of all, you should look at the different brands that are out there, and look at the features that each one has to offer. Uniden makes some very good packages that have a corded base set with either one, two, three, or even four satellite phones with it. V-Tech is a decent brand, but they have slipped over the years. Panasonic is a pretty ok brand, but they are sometimes a little too complicated. GE is ok, i guess, but they are not the greatest of brands either. Motorola is a very good brand, right up there with Uniden, but they are a little more expensive. Some features that you should look at are caller ID, call waiting, digital answering system, (built-in answering machine), speaker phone, lighted display and/or keypad, how many lines of text are on the display, as far as how much information can be displayed with a call, phone number memory storage, redial features, and the features that can be set with the menu. I would honestly get a home base, as even as it is the home base, and it does need electricity to be used, it can be also used in the event of a pwer outage, just you wont have any real features available to you, just the phone line itself. A corded base will help with this. I hope that I could give you a little bit of insight with your search. Take care, and good luck!
