This means you are automatically or delusionally assuming that the men who wrote down god's supposed word were 100% honest. Now as you will be aware, culture evolves, and in Western Europe, for example, one of our main cultural norms is honesty. Yes of course not everyone is honest, but the majority of people I meet seem to be. We are known as the developed world, this goes for mindset as well, Have you every been to the Far East? Mostly their culture is patriarchal and 'saving face' is number 1, honesty often takes a backseat to this.If we look at other parts of their culture we can see patterns, prostitution for example. London 100 years ago or more was rife with prostitutes, now it has evolved. It is fair to say that parts of the Far East will one day. Attitudes will also change as they do. So 2000 years ago we cannot for one minute assume that people were as honest as today and saving face and propaganda would much more likely to have been the 'order of the day' What do you think?

There are no prostitutes in London? I suppose that there are no prostitutes in the U.S. either !!! As you say, these are developed world.

(breathes big sigh) Yes of course there are but not to the extent of parts of the Far East. Strange you pedantically pick up on this minor detail instead of taking thw question in...

Short answer, yes.

Interesting question. I honestly hope that "religious people" that answer you do not condemn you for your question. It is very thought provoking.

I wouldn't assume that people were more honest way back when, and I don't hold to people being more honest today. (Scandals are much more widely publicized but it seems culture tends to be more forgiving in some cases--think Monica and Bill vs. Enron. Which violated "honesty" more?)Anyway...I wonder what makes you assume that "religious people" are delusional. Have other people criticized your beliefs, if you have any?

What the world/cultures believe is right and good is not always what is right/good in that book written by men. (Isaiah 55:8)

I hope someone gives you a more satisfactory answer.

Other than time, technology, and surroundings, no nothing has changed, the same kind of people that lived then are the same as today. If you follow and live the word of God, you can be different then them and live a life full of joy here and in the afterlife. After all this time no we haven't evolved much at all if any. All we have now and then is God.

Why do you people persist with attempting to persuade us Christians to surrender our beliefs? We are happy with out beliefs and there is nothing you can do about it. I am not giving up God, the Atonement, or Heaven. Can't y'all understand this? Why don't you spend your time trying to help the poor or hungry or something. Make the world a better place. Quit wasting your time with these stupid questions about Christianity.

One more point. Why is it so hard to believe in God, and yet you believe in evolution? There are no witnesses to how our planet or life started. Y'all want to believe that life started with a spark at the right time of chemicals coming together. Y'all want to believe in the "Big Bang" theory. Y'all want to believe man came about from a fish jumping up onto land. These theories are harder to have faith in then it is to have faith in my Heavenly Father. But, if that is what y'all want to believe, go for it. Live and let live.

I'm sorry, but I believe what I believe through the teaching of the Holy Spirit. He reveals the true, Truth. Many things in the Bible are mistranslated and the Holy Spirit reveals the "secrets" that NO one will know without Him. It's wonderful to know things that are pure truth. Many people think that they know so much, but those who have the Holy Spirit can discern what is truth, and what isn't. There are too many 'blind Christians' because they are without the Spirit!

But you need to be aware that the Bible is not one book; it's actually 66 books.

Actually its 66 books written over a period of some 1600 years. You really should get your facts right before making statements like that.

I think that I would still base my faith on ONE book that has withstood the test of time, humanity needs to look more into the concept of loving one another, helping one another and protecting God's creation.

What's wrong with that? I base my entire life on The Lord Of The Rings and I'm perfectly fine. Now where's my damn precious! I've spent so much trying to find it!
