I don't know about your boyfriend, but for me it is very calming and relaxing to just be out there on the lake doing nothing but waiting. It's rewarding when you actually catch something. It's kind of like a bonus to whole thing. My son and I used to go fishing every weekend just sit and talk about things we wouldn't otherwise discuss. It gave us a special quality time to bond.

for how long your out there you can sit in the sun and totally relax by some lovely water and watch animals all around you then all of a sudden a massive fish can take the bait all hell breaks loose and for 20 mins you can feel like your are fighting a car, obviously then you have to try and beat that.

but even if your not catching a lot your still relaxed by the water.

and like others have said i go with my dad and although we dont really talk we still keep winding each other up by making snidey comments at each other or lieing about how big the fish really is, its great and there is so much that can change in one day , baits ,weather, position tactics style, its such a battle sometimes but when it comes good its great

fishing is great, so many good things are addressed, getting out the house for a time
being outside in the fresh air,
fulfilling a life-time intrest
time alone to put the worlds to rights
the thrill of the chase, pitting their wits against the fish
always trying to catch a bigger one,
finally gives the other half time alone, so they can put your world to right

It gives blokes a chance to get away from their partners. It's nothing to do with fishing - it's just a bit of time out and they knew their partners are very unlikely to say, 'Oh, that sounds good. I'll come too.'

Have quite a few opinions regardin' your question, I might add somewhat of analogy to the question : Why, for some women is shopping so great? Ladies, that is not meant ta' be offensive in any manner, but just simply "food for thought" ;)...

Most of the time it is because:

1) You aren't there
2) There is beer invloved
3) Sometime a boat
4) No boss, supervisors or parents
5) His buddies are there
6) Mother Nature is there

What's so wrong with that?

It just is, your out doors in the sun, wind and rain, your catching, or not , and it doesn't matter what happens. You meet other likeminded people, I could go on and on,it's just fun.
