My boyfriend is looking to do an apprenticeship in construction mainly plastering but he is 22 and Stockport college say he is too old, can anyone help? He has done plastering before and is now a labourer but he really wants the qualification, whilst working at the same time, where can he do this?

The only way I know to get training is if you are already unemployed or else you will have to pay for a course. If he is labouring on sites why not ask a plasterer if he can work with him for free a couple of hours a week to learn

You have to complete an apprenticeship by 23y. That's why he's 'too old'.
There's nothing to stop him doing the NVQ though, at Stockport or anywhere else. http://www.stockport.ac.uk/course_Search/list_course_detail.asp?course_header=1868

Being a plasterer's labourer for 'after hours' work is a good way to keep the money coming in while training.

It appears that you have been accepted only for a plastering course at college and not an apprenticeship. Maybe the college will assist you to find work once you have qualified. Best of luck and try to find the difference between there and their.
