.45 caliber bullets are .451-.452 in diameter, and range in weight from 160-255gr. in weight(app.)
9mm bullets are .355-.356 in diameter(.38's are .357, as in 'Magnum') and range in weight from 80-150gr. in weight(app.).
You do the math.

There are different .45's and 9mm's. A .45 ACP bullet is .452" in diameter, while a .45 Colt is .454". The 9mm Parabellum or Luger is .355". a 9mm Ultra is .354"

Go on wikipedia and read up on all the data if you're looking for details about the rounds.
In general though, like it was said above, .45ACP is one of the largest rounds commonly used in pistols for practical purposes size wise. It's a slower moving round than the 9mm.
In general, .45ACP will pack a greater punch than a 9mm round, though +P overpressure 9mm rounds can match the muzzle energy of standard .45ACP loads.
.45ACP cartridges are wider and as such pistols chambered in them generally have quite a bit smaller capacity than something like 9mm. IE. the standard sized Glock chambered in 9mm holds 17 rounds in the magazine while the .45ACP one holds only 13, and that is unusually large and the result is that it has a huge grip, tough to handle for people with small hands.
The most popular .45ACP pistol is the 1911 in one of it's many versions. Most use a single stack magazine so it holds only 7 or 8 cartridges but has a very nice slim grip.

If you are asking about the .45 acp and the .9mm then the .45 is wider and slightly longer than the .9mm. Generally the .45 is also more powerful than the common .9mm. You didn't ask but the only similiarity they have is that both are pistol bullets.

.45 caliber round is larger in diameter and slower in velocity than 9mm round. .45 is generally thought to deliver more "stopping power". Personally, I wouldn't want to be shot with either.

They are internal barrel diameters. 45 is 0.45 inches, and 9 mm is nine millimetres, which is about .38 inches. generally, firearms using 9 mm have a longer range and a flatter trajectory than .45 due to the greater weight of the latter, and the tendency for 9 mm guns to use higher powered ammunition.
