Just be careful about uninstalling. It's very complicated. Installing is easy. Do you think this has something to do with corporations making it easy to obtain their products, but almost impossible to stop using them?

If you have the Windows XP installed on your other computer and it is registered you cannot install it on another computer unless you have a volume licence. If you try to install it on more than one computer at a time, and try to register it, you'll get an error message on your second computer. You could buy another copy of XP (I'd get an OEM version from a computer store such as CompUSA or Frys cause they are cheaper than the shiny box versions). Then with the new disc, insert it into you laptop dvd tray and restart the laptop. A dialog box will come up asking if you want to install the operating system. Click on yes and it will lead you through reformatting your hard drive and installing the XP operating system. If you have the Vista disk too, you can dual boot. Install the XP disk first. When it asks if you want to reformat the hard drive click yes. When it asks how big you want the partition to be, instead of clicking on the default size, change it to about half the size of the maximum size on the disk. Then once XP has been installed on that partition, you can insert the Vista disk and restart. You can then choose to install Vista on the second partition. That way, you can take advantage of the strenghts of both operating systems.

The last Dell computer I had - I upgraded my subscription after the first 45 free days for another 24 months, mainly because I was very impressed with McAfee.
With this Dell computer I got McAfee for 15mths pre-installed, and I'm still impressed with it.
If you don't wish to go for either McAfee or Norton, I think AVG is the third most popular (and hopefully effective too).

Avast is probably the better one to use.
I also have used both Avast and AVG. I also tried AntiVira.
Have a look at
http://free-and-legal.net/Antivirus.html
There are free firewalls and anti spam as well.
"" DONT PAY FOR ANYTHING TO DO WITH SECURITY""
It's a scam. There are free versions that are far better than so called commercial versions. I hate the B*&^%rds.
Good luck
