Mandarin may have more native speakers, but there are only a few non native speakers.
And there are also very few countries where any of the Chinese languages is the main language.
English on the other hand is spoken as first language in many countries around the world, and as second language by many more people.
Spanish and French make good bets for being the most widely spoken languages after English, it is not numbers, it is spreading over the world and use as a means of communicating by non natives.
Arabic is coming up, as the Arabic speakers move around the world, but in view of the political situation in the world not many westerners want to learn that language.

My Chinese (Mandarin speaker) friend in England has to use English to speak with most other Chinese people she meets in the western world because they speak either a different language or a dialect that is rather different from her own.

Britain made headway in many parts of the world, including the US. Go to India and there are dozens of languages but most can communicate in English. Go to the business areas of China or Japan and they know English. China's isolationism for decades kept them from spreading their language much. But now that China has become more open to international business knowing Chinese will become an essential.

NOPE! Fact is Chinese in any dialect will become more spoken than English, because there are so many Chinese people, but in all reality English is the most common universal language.

While your statement regarding Mandarin is correct, it is not the majority of the language of the U.S. Each country should be allowed their language, and in the case of the United States it is English.
