You've all heard of false awakenings, in which one dreams that they have awakened from sleep...but falling asleep in a dream? I've experienced the former many times, but recently I dreamt I crawled into bed, fell asleep, and woke up (while really still being asleep). Upon reflection, I realized that during that period of "double sleep", it was as if my consciousness had stopped existing completely - there's just a mental/time gap between going to bed and waking up in the dream.

Can anyone explain how this happened? My mind has never shut off completely like it did then, whether awake or asleep.

Oh, and by the way, I felt unusually rested upon waking up.

You think too much and that was your brain's way of shutting you down for a while. Maybe your mind needed a nap?

It seems as though you have a unique quality.... without realizing it. What you have experienced is a minor Astro Projection experience.
It is believed that one can achieve such a deep relaxation that the mind will fool the body into letting the soul do something else (for example move about as if the body has ended.)
Your dream seems it may qualify as the pre-astro phase. Many meditators and monks practice Astro Projection but very few can achieve it and it's benefits.
It is said that by placing your body in a pitch black room but allowing a small nataural light and a light ambient noise to be the only two things disturbing the room. The person is to lay on his/her back with the eyes closed. The person is to think of 6 colors and 6 regions of the body. The person is to put each region of the body to full sleep while thinking of the color which coincides with the body region.
RED - Right Leg
Orange - Left Leg
Green - Right Arm
Yellow - Left Arm
Blue - Torso (concentrate on the heart)
Violet - Head (concentrate on the eyes)

The person can not move to the next region - color until the region has fallen completely asleep. Once the person gets to the head / eyes - this is when there is an effort to move from the body by convincing the mind the body has ended. If done properly you will be able to freely move about and even look at your body.

You seem to have the nack... try it out ....

How do I clarify it? a mix of twist of fate and fulfillment of expectancies. quite everyone targets, each night and few bear in mind them of course (or in any respect)...that is basically the tiny share that look to coincide with later activities that are recalled...something proceed to be interior the subconscious unremembered with the aid of fact not something happens at the same time as conscious to bear in mind them. right this is a project...write down each dream you bear in mind intimately, first subject upon awakening. Have a itemizing of predictive targets that later happen quite, not dimly-remembered ones which you think of extra healthful the activities after the reality...then we will communicate.

Your dream is interesting. trauma and stress have given my mind a similar dream. but i just know it to be a different dimension and accept it for what it gave me.I think the mind has created a kind of safe haven for rest because of all the unsafe activities going on in the world.

hm....well, according to dreammoods.com, it could be that you are so unwilling to look at issues in your life, that you are sleeping through them even in the dream state, or you could be so at peace with your life that you don't even need to dream about it and sort things out, so then you just sleep in your dreams. Interesting contradiction there, but I can see how it could mean both...
