The first symbol of xtainity was a fish, because in Greek word for 'fish' was an anagram for 'christos'. The cross is a later symbol, and sometimes it has been venerated as a holy object like the remains of saints, or holy pictures of saints (icons). Iconoclast - Someone who would destroy the Icons.
In the Dark and Middle Ages, something that was either in contact with someone who was Holy, or represented something Holy became an amulet or charm itself against evil and misfortune.
If all the pieces of the "True Cross" were assembled in one place there would probably be enough wood to build a several large houss. Saint's skulls and bones were especially prized, for maybe it was possible for some of their holiness would rub off on the hoi-polloi. There were large factories that did nothing but create Holy objects, like the Shroud(s) of Turin,\ several Holy Grails, and at least three Spears of Longinius (In some sects, Christ was speared to death while on the cross, and didn't die from cruxifiction),so such a spear would give the holder invincibility in battle...
Looking back, most people, even many xtians, realize that those Ages were ignorant, brutal, and short, a great part due to the Catholic Church's quest for spiritual monopoly, wealth and political power...
These days a cross is a symbol of the faith itself, and I doubt if anyone actually worships it anymore, beauae many wear it without worrying overly much about what it means. Some of the more fundamentalist xtians have gone back to the fish.
Xtianity was probably created by someone calling his self 'St. Paul of Tarsus'. Jesus Christ's teachings were lost in the grab for power - xtians didn't/ and don't, really care what he taught - they're all on a personal salvation trip to give fealty to a personal Lord and Savior who caters only to them - and for some unknown reason will forgive their sins and give them a free pass into Heaven.
The Evangelical Xtian IS the '"Me" Generation'. Whereas, the real Jesus didn't say he came to wash away their petty sins and misdemeanors - he preached "the Kingdom of Heaven" and how to get there during his lifetime..
The "Believe five-things, and do four-things" xtians have been morally and spiritually bankrupt for decades, though they seem to have far more political influence then they deserve, under Dubya -- Hopefully, they'll lose that too - very soon!!

We do not worship the cross or statues, not even Catholics. We worship Jesus Christ, the Son of God, for His sacrifice on the cross. The symbol of the cross is a reminder, nothing more. Hope this helps. Peace.

In Islam, Jesus was recognized as a prophet and A true prophet cannot lie. In a story he told a certain man went down from jerusalem to Jericho and fell among thieves which stripped him of his clothes and wounded him and departed, leaving him half dead. Two men passed by him, a priest and a levite. Neither one of these religious men had anything to do with him. But a hated Samaritan saw this poor man, his enemy, bleeding there in the road. The wounded man, ignored bu his own people, was in the hands of his enemy. What would the Samaritan do to him?...he had compassion on him..and bound up his wounds, pouring oil and wine and set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn. Jesus asked "which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?". Jesus said..."Go, and do thou likewise". Jesus is much more than you THINK he is. True prophets do not tell lies. Does Islam say ANYWHERE that Jesus lied? No of course not

i comprehend, it replaced into so surprising analyzing this text! yet all of them make his crucifixion so glamorous, like if it particularly is a vacationer charm. you comprehend, no person might positioned on a rope and a motor vehicle on their necklace and worship James Byrd as somebody that died for our sins, yet a pass casted out of gold and copper is totally positive. As an atheist i detect it as a torture. that is unhappy what got here approximately to Jesus and it is likewise unhappy there is not any memorial website for victims of medieval torture. All what you spot are WW2 memorials in the time of Europe. you will not even see something with regards to the bubonic plague and it in simple terms approximately killed us all, a million/3 of the inhabitants and that is nevertheless killing human beings! yet which faith do you have in strategies? After analyzing this text, I remembered a scene in Age of Conan the place a demise woman riot is nailed to a tree with the aid of the enemies. That replaced right into a tragic scene. A tree might thoroughly replace each little thing christianity and catholicism, yet then you certainly might pay attention human beings arguing approximately which tree it replaced into like with the forbidden fruit. It replaced right into a fig! not an apple or grapes. there is extra opportunities it replaced right into a pomegranate than an apple. properly what else replaced into community back then in center east. yet perhaps that is okay that an apple is perceived, with the aid of fact then iPod could be iFig.

Catechism of the Catholic Church
618 The cross is the unique sacrifice of Christ, the "one mediator between God and men". But because in his incarnate divine person he has in some way united himself to every man, "the possibility of being made partners, in a way known to God, in the paschal mystery" is offered to all men. He calls his disciples to "take up [their] cross and follow [him]", for "Christ also suffered for [us], leaving [us] an example so that [we] should follow in his steps." In fact Jesus desires to associate with his redeeming sacrifice those who were to be its first beneficiaries. This is achieved supremely in the case of his mother, who was associated more intimately than any other person in the mystery of his redemptive suffering.
Apart from the cross there is no other ladder by which we may get to heaven

I am a christian and I wondered almost the same thing about the cross. but I have never worshiped it or anything just had it around as a reminder of what Jesus has done for us all. I believe that is mostly the reason for it being around.

We don't worship the cross, rather we use it as a symbol to remeber the suffereing that paid for us. His sacrifice is what allows us to be Sons and Daughters of the most Holy God. Without it we are all nothing in the eyes of God.
For without his sacrifice and resurrection there is NO salvation.

Christians dont worship the cross... it's like modern day worshipping of ropes that hang.. we just believe in Jesus because he rose from the dead from the cross.. From heaven, to earth, to the cross, to the grave and to the sky.
