I'm planning a camping trip for me and my dad and I was looking at the campsite information and it says "Dogs are allowed, but only on a leash." How would that work? I would love to take my dog, but it just doesn't seem to make sence, would the dog sleep in the tent with you, or what? How would it go to the toilet? You would have to take it absolutely everywhere with you because it has to be on it's leash all the time? Has anyone ever taken their dog dog camping and can explain it to me? How did it go?

Sorry first I have to say!! WHAT TO THE DUDE WHO SAID TO PUT THE DOG TO SLEEP OR CUT HIM!! EXCUSE ME!!

I took my dog to camp with me!!He is a german sheperd so he could sleep with us!!So, I brought a crate!! My whole family went!! When she would need to go, i would walk her to a certain point!! If your dog isnt trained, then just put newspaper and clean it out every night!! Ok and if you dont want to use a crate, then you could buy a seperate tent to put the dog in!! That is what my Aunt did when we couldnt find the crate one year!! It was a cheapy tent for dogs!! They do have some a petco!! They have some for certain sizes!! If there is a petco there..lol...i dont know!! When you leave you can leave the dog in there with food and water!! If you dont like to leave the dog alone, then there are sometimes doggy daycares!! I always look for some when i go camping, for like when we go on a long hike!! You dont always have to put the dog in doggy camp but a crate would work BEST!!

I just took my silky terrier camping in Yosemite for a couple nigths. It went fine. In that national park, dogs are only allowed on paved trails, but there were tons of those so it was fine. He did have to be on a leash the whole time, except at night we just let him curl up in the tent with us. He's only about 10 lbs so it was fine. When we were cooking and hanging out at the campsite we just tied the end of his leash to the picnic table with food and water within reach. He had a towel to lay on and was content to rest since we had been hiking around all day. Take your dog camping! You will both love it.

My dog is a tiny little Yorkie. She goes camping with us all the time. She has a cute little yellow doggie tent, a pink chaise lounge chair and her own umbrella. When we are at the campsite she stays with me so I don't tie her up but if we go any where, horseshoe, the pond, the playground, etc. she goes on her leash. My Little Lexi always sleeps with us so when it's time for bed she goes in our tent. Lexi goes to the toilet when she has to go and I pick it up just like any where else. I have had people that we know at the camp ground tell me they would watch her if we wanted to do something without her. In a couple weeks we are going white water rafting and I have asked a very nice couple at the camp ground, that we know if they would watch her and they can't wait. Lexi is kinda the campground mascot...hehehe
Everyone loves her and can't wait to see her.

I camp with my dogs all the time..yes they do sleep in the tent, camper, RV with you just like they sleep in the house when at home. Yes you do need to take them with you everywhere and on leash or long line. To let them potty you simply take them for a walk and take along poop bags with you to clean up after them. You take along their food and water as well as their dishes. If your dog is use to being tied you can take a tie out rope/chain with you for when you are just relaxing at your campsite that way your dog can move around and you don't have to hang on to a leash. Just make sure the rope isn't so long that it can go to other peoples sites. For my dogs I don't tie them out..I use x-pens. I hook 2-3 together depending on the size of the site and simply put the dogs in there. It is like having their own fenced in yard. I bring along a blanket for them to lay on if they chose and also some of their toys and chew bones.
I take 3 dogs camping...2 Danes and a German Shorthair.

When we take our dog camping we get this thing called a stake . it is like a metal thing that u put in the ground, then put the leash over it and it holds the dog in place. sometimes we put the dog in the car boot at night or we put it in the tent with us it keeps us warm . u can also tie it to the trailer thing at the back of your car.

ps. what u put the trailer on

We take my Jack Russell camping all the time and he LOVES it. They just want you to have a leash on him for safety reasons. It shouldn't limit your activities. They have metal screws that you can put in the ground so you don't have to carry the dog around with you all the time and it won't be tied up it can move around freely. Dogs love the outdoors just as much as humans do.

Put your dog to sleep and you can do this in many ways. You can slice him w/ a katana sword or do a stone cold stunner on him. Then snap him on a leash and you won't have to worry about him roaming around. After camp is over, you can use phenoix down on him and he'll recover like new.
