I'm fostering a siamese mom with five kittens. She was growling at them when they went to nurse, so I looked at her belly. The nipples are so raw they don't appear to have skin left where the babies were nursing. Is there anything I can put on them to make her feel better (and hopefully let the kits nurse)?

Wash them with warm soap and water and them apply a hypoallergenic cream containing lanolin but with no alcohol like Eucerin. If they are swollen and red around the nipple and draining anything other than milk, they may be infected. You might call your vet to see if he has a special cream for this too. Good luck.

Cats dont leave any medicinal creams on them so it would only make her sick and the babies to lick it off.How old are the kittens? Do they have teeth? You could try cool (not cold)compresses, it wont be easy to do. Maybe a wet washcloth to the nipples. But she needs a Vet and they will be able to give her a shot to help. Poor Momma to be in pain and poor babies are hungry. Get Esbilac milk replacer for the babies.

If the kittens are older than 4 weeks, start feeding them aa little boiled chicken or kitten food from the pet store. That will relieve the mum.

Pure Lanolin. Ask at your local pharmacy, they may have it behind the counter. Cheap and works perfectly.
