It usually happens with me. Iam not scared of water but if I see a tooooo big pool, I feel like dieng. Its from my birth. But I haven't scene real sea from long and I still get such dreams in which water is waiting for me or I am saved from drowning.
Somebody told me its meaning , but anybody has got a better answer.

Water in dreams can mean different things depending on how the water looks, or what your doing with it.
In your case because your seeing large pools of water, these represent a spiritual porthole. A gate way into a new realm of understanding of great significances to you.

I once read that dreaming of water shows a desire to be more pure.I don't know why it scares you.I just had a beatiful dream of swimming in a huge clean,clear lake where I couls see the bottom ,every rock and all the way across the lake cause the water was so clear,even if you can't swim in life,you could in your dreams so dive in!
