me and my boyfriend are moving to a house of 3 bedrooms, we only need 1 bedroom. Anyway, the lounge room is very tiny without a door, i am planning to make the biggest bedroom our lounge room because it has a door, ie when i go sleep my boyfriend can close the lounge room's door and keep it quiet, but my question is, what should i put in the 'real' lounge room? its the first room where the front door of the house is, it has no door, its connected to the kitchen. Thanks

I've seen homes with the dining room as the first room in the home. Now what I would do, however.

Sitting area for having afternoon tea, and a quiet place to read. That's what I'd do with it. Make it really cozy.

You could put a sofabed or convertible love seat or daybed in there to convert it into a guest room for company. It can be a sitting room when there's no company staying over.

Could this area be considered a combination breakfast room and sitting room, where you could place a small bistro-style table with two bar/counter stools and also have a small sofa with a couple of end tables and maybe a coffee/cocktail table where you could entertain friends or you and your boyfriend could relax and rejuvenate while sharing a snack or two? It could house a small TV; if you have some lamps, you might place them on either side of the sofa on the end tables. With these suggestions in mind, the room could be multi-functional while serving to be a comfortable way of eating, entertaining friends and/or family, reading, watching TV, etc. Hope this helps. Good luck and have fun decorating!

You could make it a formal livingroom. You could also use another room as your home office. That's a great idea for the lounge, btw.

A little table with two or three chairs. Put some glass etc on the table to match it for presence of a kitchen.

Well we have something like that. my mom calls it the "mud room" it where we leave all our shoes and umbrellas and stuff. Its perfect becuse you dont trip over shoes or leave huge puddles all over the house when it rains. you could try it as that.
