Well, away from the ancient concept, the idea of the world as intrinsically unreal has been stimulated by "The Matrix" and the "are we living in a computer simulation?" argument.

Clearly no-one has a perfect connection with an existent reality. We operate on appproximations, models, derived from what appear to be sensory data. While noting hallucinations, illusions, wrong assumptions etc. it seems to work remarkably well.

I recently drove to Cambridge. I'm not sure I could prove the existence of Cambridge or cars, but I got there and Cambridge was mostly as I expected it, but not entirely.
Pretty much what I'd expect if there was an external reality to which I had good but not complete access.

The "reality" hypothesis seems much simpler. Are there any data which really force the illusion hypothesis to the fore?

Illusion is something that is not permanent and vanishes over a time .we generlly think tha illusion s just something tha anishes in a short while .the is no deinite quantum of tiem assigned for it .somethings vanish very quickly ,something tke some longer time .
the face of the earthis also changeing and allthat is seenon the faceof the earth at some time is totally changesd after some time .By our reckoning the time by which the esarth and all that is on earth change may be longer . but the change ois definite and certain.so all that we see on the faxce f he earth ois illusory and the life is an illusion only.
Not only that . All that we see today is also Maya only. We see he sun moving across the sky daily from east to west .but we know now in reality the sun is not moving and the earthis rotating oinits axis.But we also do not feel the rotation of the earth.we thinlk it is stable and fixed .It is not .We see somethig blue in he skyand the blue thing seems to form a vault ove rthe earth as wrongly belieed by Mosses also who attributed that wrong knowledge to god in hios first book of Genesis .In reality ther eis nothg like a vault .it is he sacttering of the light passing through the gasses and sust in the atmosphere .The is nothing like th esky and it is vacuum and empti space above .The stars seem tob efixed on the vault .But they are floaing in the space and ae moving away with tremendous speed. All that we around us is illusory only.

To me, Reality is what we see before us, when we are most conscious. Which is now. That doesn't rule out the possibility that we're controlled by some advanced aliens, causing us to have "illusions". but then, why care so much? On one level, the world looks like a thought wave only.... and beyond that even Thought vanishes...this is what Buddha called a peaceful Void

From the viewpoint of reality, this is not a solid world, although it "feels" very real to us. We believe it cause we see it, & we see it cause we believe it. Try reading The Holographic Universe. Has no one ever thought it strange that everytime we concieve of a new subatomic particle, low & behold we find it.
