Over-the-counter treatments for vaginal yeast infections are becoming more available. As a result more women are diagnosing themselves with yeast infections and using one of a family of drugs called "azoles" for therapy. However, misdiagnosis is common, and studies have shown that as many as two-thirds of all OTC drugs sold to treat infections were used by women without the disease. Using these drugs when they are not needed may lead to a resistant infection. Resistant infections are very difficult to treat with the currently available medications for yeast infections.
If you have not had a yeast infection before you need to go to the doctor to get it checked out. He may recommend Monistat, or he may prescribe a prescription medication such as Diflucan. If you have had one before you can self treat with Monistat.
Do not use vaginal cream or suppositories for self-medication if you have abdominal pain, fever, or malodorous vaginal discharge. Inform your doctor if abdominal pain, hives, skin rash, vaginal pruritus or discomfort occurs.

monistat but eat alot of yogurt. also i know this sounds gross but if you are experiencing lots of itching go to the store and buy a big plain yogurt (no flavor) and get in the tub and slather all down there and sit for about 5 minutes works wonderfully because of the live cultures. hey i though it was stupid too until i tried it... good luck

Monistat is good, but if you get the one or three day kind, make sure to wait seven days before intercourse, because yeast infections can still be spread in that period of time.
