Yes, Mark Twain was referring to "first sight" and "first impressions". There is no mystique when one is naked.
Besides, (then and now) naked people running around certainly gained the attention of the guards/cops and the public/ the media!
Where do you think the men in white coats came from?

very true! it's not literal...well dressed man compared to homeless style. only to the extreme. or maybe in his day homeless ppl really were naked? That would be worth investigating...If they did have influence then they wouldn't be homeless would they?
