and cools off naturally. Isn't it true just 20 years ago we were in a mini ice age? Come on people, state of fear.

Many of the "scientists" that agree with global warming are being paid for by the "green" companies, one of which is owned by Gore. You know, Al Gore, the overweight freak who's house consumes 20 times more energy a day than the average American, but global warming is so bad that he has asked everyone else to reduce energy consumption. Gore needs to make money, so he puts a "state of fear" in the people to make more money.
The republicans are worried about a real threat, terrorism, whereas the liberals are worried about global warming. Go figure.

Spot on - the planet has always warmed and cooled of it's own accord, ever since it first came into existence billions of years ago.

But the one thing that skeptics conveniently overlook is the speed at which warming and cooling occurs.

Some skeptics say "there are natural cycles and the world is now warming", when it would be more accurate to say "there are natural cycles and the world is now warming 19 times faster than has ever before been known". I think you'll agree, there's an important difference.

To put it into context. The world is currently warming by 0.0177 degrees C per year. The current natural warming trend began 18,000 years ago, if the world had warmed naturally at the rate it is doing now then the forecast for today would read New York 659F, Miami 665F, LA 650F, Anchorage 641F.

20 years ago we weren't in an mini ice age. There's a period approx 400 years ago often referred to as the Little Ice Age, a somewhat misleading description as it wasn't an ice age at all but a period of time then temperatures fell below the long term average. You may be thinking of the global cooling scare of the 1970's; this is something that the skeptics have also taken out of context. There never wes a scare, scientists never predicted an imminent ice age; a handful of publications ran one off sensationalist articles.

Again, to put it into context - currently the BBC are asking users to submit their memories of the decades from the 50's to the 90's. From the large number of unedited submissions there are more references to Space Hoppers, Raleigh Choppers, Slade and Morecambe and Wise than there are to global cooling. Odd that people can remember a toy, a bike, a pop group and a TV show but not the supposed end of the planet.

Again another "well I don't believe it so why should I do anything argument" FACTS- regardless of GLOBAL WARMING we are killing the planet with toxic fumes and destroying trees in the millions each day, we have wiped out thousands of species of plants and animals and soon even ourselves as we are so selfish and foolish not to see that we are impacting the planet each single day.

So anyway guess you would say "I wont be around so hey who cares" right but image the planet in 100-200 years shame we didn't act earlier. Who cares if global warming is right or wrong the fact is we are impacting and anything we can do to reduce that impact and protect our species and the millions more that share this earth the better I say. Remember that yes Ice ages come and go (fact) but over a period of 100's of years, this is not rapid change and therefore the animals and even us have had time to adapt to these changes. FACT - the world climate is changing faster than ever before and even we are having trouble adapting this time (Katrina). So what should we do nothing? or maybe get of our lazy sorry asses and stop denying that Global Warming is all natural and do something useful with our existence instead...Just my 2cents worth thank you I now step off the soapbox.

global warming takes place in increased increments as the population grows using vastly more heat as energy rela\easing more heat into the air, the oceans are heating up and the ice cap is melting as an ever expended rate more rapidly than even the most radical naysayer would have predicted and as we cover more and more thousands of square miles of earth with concrete, buildings and asphault the heat index rising proportionally we can say cycle of nature all we want but ten thousand years ago there weren't billions of people that many cars, millions of factories with smoke stacks and on and on and on so yeah there is a nature cycle to these things and we have preverted it beyond belief at a pace not ever seen before by the human race. You can stick you head in the sand or any other place you choose but all you have to do is look at what is going on around you world wide and the numbers do not lie they tell a scary story of the devatation of a planet at breakneck speed which those who for whatever reason decide not to believe and therfore not to act will go down with the rest of us when there is nothing left but the cockroaches Sit in a closed car for an hour and feel the heat now enlarge that closed car to the earths atmosphere and feel the heat you can naysay all that you wish but the info and numbers you use to support your claim will not hold up under scrutiny so your children will be left to deal with the massive problems while we rot in overheated graves. start checking out what is really going on instead of blindly deciding to read nothing on it, listen to nothing about it and learn nothing from it. the time to act was 40 years ago the die to be beyond the point of no return is so near it is breathing down our necks and its breath is hot, very hot

I have yet to see any evidence of global warming over an extended period of time. Temperature measurement only goes back a little over 100 years, which is a microcosm of geologic time. However, there is substantial evidence of ice ages and warm periods long before the advent of humans on this planet. And scientists were definitely making a lot of noise about heading towards an ice age during the 60s and 70s. Nonetheless, anyone seriously concerned about global warming should do their part to reduce potential global warming from greenhouse gases by holding their CO2-laden breath...and practice birth control while they are at it...

It has been scientifically demonstrated that carbon dioxide concentration in air is much higher today than 50 years ago, and the cause is no other than the emissions from the man-made machines and artifacts combined with the reduction of the woods, which naturally used to balance the carbon mass in air. And that's a fact which won't disappear just by ignoring it. Come on, It's not time to question IF there is a problem, but rather WHAT are we going to do.

OK that is true. But the natural warm up isn't so natural any more with all the green house gasses being put back into the atmosphere. It traps heat in making it difficult to cool back down. I can tell how you would think that the world is paranoid it's because we are. Because we know some thing is wrong with our world and it scares us. that's good though so we can fix it.

There's no doubt in my mind that global warming is happening and at an alarming rate as never witnessed before by humans. What else could melt the icey polar regions so quickly?

If it's a natural cycle, when did it happen the last time? Please don't speculate because that would be like a religious person futily trying to prove that the whole Universe is only about 4,000 years old.

For me, it's not a state of fear - it's concern and an ambition to seek new, undiscovered ways of either stopping it or at least slowing it down.

If humans are intelligent enough to do things that can change the composition of our atmosphere by creating smog, maybe they can be smart enough to do things that can reverse deadly environmental conditions.

The most recent ice age was 10,000 years ago. There is a such thing as global warming and that is why our icebergs are melting at a much faster speed than predicted. You need to do more research on the subject of global warming

Global warming makes you feel responsible for something. The planet is heating up and its YOUR fault. But luckily, there is a way to correct it! Go Green!

And so, many people go green. It gives them a feeling of connection to the planet and a sense of personal control.

Sadly, its all an illusion. If the planet is heating up, there is no way in hell we can stop it. Humans need to do what Humans do best: Adapt.
