They are pretty equal, ballistically speaking. The '06 shoots a slightly wider round and the .7mm can be faster but you're not going to go wrong with either one.
Its kinda like with my old .25-06 Remington and my .270 Vanguard (both have 24" barrels); they drop deer equally well but I just like my old ADL better. Go figure!
Which comes up to your shoulder better, the .7mm or the '06? Only you can decide.

The 7mm can reach out quite a distance and not sacrifice a lot of energy. It's pretty fast. But the 30-06 may perform better in the brush, the round is a little rounder and heavier. However, both are howitzers. My dad used to moose hunt with my 7mm mag.

They both work just fine on deer. I have noticed that you get more hamburger with the 7mag but that may be a fluke. I like the 06 myself as I like to shoot my collection of old military thundersticks; and you can buy ball ammo inexpensively for the 06 and blaze away.

Both are great calibers for deer, but I'd give the edge to the 7mm magnum for shots beyond 250 yards.

I have only used the 7mm and I love it. No desire to try a 30-06, but not against it i guess (?) Sorry I am not much help.

Your question is more of personal choice. WWD is correct in the general sense of your question, in regards to overpowered. I for one have dropped deer on the spot with a .22 rifle (i know illegal) 100 yards as well as a .243 at 200 yards simply because I know my weapon, the load as well as windage and elevation. The bigger caliber generally assists the under acheiver while destroying good meat.

You're kidding, right? Both are significantly overpowered for deer. There may be special situations in which you'd like to have more than a quarter-bore, but if something like 6.5x55 or 7x57 isn't enough, you have problems unrelated to the cartridge you're using.

Heckler & Koch PSG 1, works like a charm. That deer will have it's head blown open before it even knows what happened... lol. I really don't know though.

Either, or neither. They will equally kill a deer just as dead.
