....people come across as having strong, illogical religious beliefs. Like, I'll be talking to someone and then they will start paraphrasing the Bible/Koran/etc. and I will start to feel very uncomfortable. I'll keep smiling and nodding, but inside I feel physically ill and repulsed....

Is that common??

The official diagnois is HypocritusAversus, and it comes from the physical realization that the person preaching before you is in no position to do so, except for the self-willed belief that they are more 'special' than you. Queeriness, anxiety, nauseousness, and a strong need to run away from said person are all common affects of the disease. Most often found in religious settings or in strong anti-religious settings.

Things can be nauseous, but you feel nauseated. ( I know, it is a pedantic sickness ) I do not get much of that, since I live in the Bay Area. ( It has it's own brand of kookiness ) I guess I would feel disdain and if the were persistent, I would feel anger. As I said, It has been a long time since I had to face a steady diet of proselytizing. You have my sympathy.

Yes I feel like running away. Especially when putting my St Francis in the yard of my new home and................a neighbor came over and comments "Oh I used to be a Catholic too, But Now I'm a CHRISTIAN." I always thought Catholics were Christians....of course they are. I said I'm not a Catholic but I love animals and he is the Saint for animals I'm told. What I really wanted to say was "You moron stupid twit...you don't even know what you are talking about"
Yes they make me sick.

Well if you feel that way, nothing said can change that, and the redundancy is killing you . Next time gently say you really don't care fot it. They probably have no idea you feel that way and would stop if you asked. I would.

No. Who's to say that people don't find YOUR beliefs illogical? How can you talk like you've got the whole thing figured out?
