It's not a matter of how LONG it's been dead, but WHY it's dead. Was it killed by coyotes, or did it die of wasting disease and then got scavenged by coyotes. I wouldn't take the chance that the dear died of disease or parasites.

Go ahead and eat it. If you want to get deathly ill, and maybe even die!

In summer, I'd say follow ServeSafe Rules, if it has been dead more than four hours without being dressed and refrigerated, leave it for the buzzards.

In winter cold, you might let things stretch to six or maybe even eight hours if it is really cold with nothing more than field dressing, but no more than that in above freezing weather.

Sure, just brush the maggots away and use a bit of BBQ sauce, no problem! Or eat them too, great source of protein.

Eating random dead creatures we find out in the woods is a great way to save money.

Way too long!! 24 hours at most if the air temp is cool (like in the 50's)
