If your budget permits it, at today's gas prices, you can't beat the awesome scenery of Alaska in the summer. A great way to go is via the Alaska Ferry. Once you've made your way to Anchorage, take the Alaska Railroad to Fairbanks. (But explore the Kenai Peninsula first. Lots of ways to do that.) Once finished with Fairbanks, make your way to Alaska's North Slope. You'll love crossing the Brooks Range. From Chandalar on (just before the Brooks Range), you're north of the timber line, and its all vistas of flowery tundra. Walking on it is like walking on sponges. And you'll ultimately reach the sparkling Arctic Ocean, where little wavelets lap gently up on a beach of gravel under a bright sun that doesn't set. Unforgettable!

Florida, You should go check out Panama City !! The beaches are great and the water is so nice!! And In Florida anything goes! You can walk down the path with a nice Ice cold 24oz Bud Can that is Open it in front of 7-11 walk about .5 miles to your hotel room which the door is right on the beach all with out getting arrested for open container BS that happens at any other beach in the USA so Florida rocks cause of laid back laws and great beaches and warm Very warm and nice ocean water!!

I say it depends on what kind of place your wanting to go.

For a bright sunny beach area that's not as expensive as Florida or California, I suggest the Coast of Texas or higher in New England.

Other great places to travel are national parks such as Yellowstone National Park.
~~~~~~~~~~
The one place I strongly suggest is New York City. It has beaches, the outskirts of the city have nice green scenery, and putting the cost aside, It has the most intriguing lineup of places to see. Tons of museums such as the Smithsonian; or designer stores such as Gucci (browsing). And, of course, BROADWAY! There's also Madison Square Garden and Chinatown...
There's an endless amount of places to see there. Hope this helps.
Hawaii and Alaska seem like fun places to go! I've never been to Alaska, but I lived in Hawaii for awhile. It's gorgeous, the water is warm and clean, and the beaches are beautiful. There are also lots of things to see, like the Dole plant (try the maze) and the North Shore where they have surfing contests.
West Virginia......the state is beautiful and the people are friendly. Historic sites - glass blowing demonstrations - cultural festivities - good food.
