Yes, he has given you that choice to not believe in him. But the rub is that if you don't he punishes you.

Kind of hypocritical, don't you think? I'm going to give you the choice of not believing or worshipping me, but if you choose not to, I'm gonna let you burn in hell.

How nice. I don't know about you, but it sure does make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Yes, God gave you the free will to choose—to follow Him or ignore Him, to acknowledge Him or deny Him, to do good or to do evil.

The free will that He gave us is stated in Revelation 3:20, to wit: “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” What is that door? That is our heart—not the physical heart but the figurative heart—our feelings, emotion, sentiment, nature, temperament, mood, disposition, humor; innermost feelings, true nature, soul; sympathy, compassion, tenderness, gentleness; affection, fondness, love; tolerance, forgiveness, charity, clemency; etc. (Reader’s Digest Word Finder). We are the only one who can open that door to let Him in. That door is that free will.

You can do what you want to do now, according to God’s commandments or not (if you acknowledge God), but at the end, on Judgment Day, God will settle accounts with us. Are His commandments for our goodness or not? Is sacrificing His life for us to show how sincere His love for us not good enough? The choice is ours. Now, it is our time. Later, it will be God’s time when He judges all of us.

So while there is still time, come back to Him and repent and change our wrong beliefs and wrong and evil ways. Acknowledge that He is the one who gave us our life. We owe our life to Him.

Remember, once we leave this world, we cannot repent anymore. The saying “Better late than never” is not applicable this time. If you are late, you are late. Period. Full stop. We will not be passing this way again. This is our last incarnation.

I don't think the words right or wrong have any meaning here. The penalty for choosing the path away from God is to be without God.

Yes, to an extent. We are graced with the knowledge of knowing God by God himself. People don't choose to believe or not believe in him. You have not been graced with the knowledge. Once we are given to Jesus we use our free will to do good or not. It's free will at a spiritual level not at the level you describe.

God gave each of us, "free will" and you are certainly free to not believe in God; however, you can't choose the consequences of your actions.

That is true. You have the freedom to not to believe in God.

However, Jesus believes in God, and he took the baptism.
