decide on how much you can spend on a gift, then 1/2 it. buy a gift from each child. they want to bring in a gift for themselves. so i guess i am saying to think about how your own children feel in the situation. buy a 2 stage gift, one child could bring a (fairly large) white board (about $15 at Sams club) and the other child could bring the white board markers as a gift. just an idea. good luck to you!

One gift from the family is absolutely fine. Can you imagine if you had 10 kids and thought each had to bring a gift? Then again, with 10 kids you would pretty much *be* the birthday party. :)
In any case, if you'd like to have each child bring a smaller gift, that's okay too, but in NO WAY necessary or expected. Personally, I'd rather have one cooler gift than 2 small ones.

I think one gift is fine. Ive seen that done a lot, even the whole family will be at the party with one gift. If its your kids each wanting to carry something in, then maybe have 2 things within the budget of course. But one gift is fine i think from my experience.

There is certainly nothing wrong with bringing one from each child, but you can often get away with one gift if it's a bit nicer. Usually my rule of thumb is split the difference...for example, if you'd typically spend $10 on a single gift, then one from "both of us" should cost about $15. But one major advantage to bringing two is that each of your children could take part in choosing the gift they bring.

If you take one gift, spend a little bit more. Not twice as much as you would if you were only sending one child. If you usually spend $20 on a gift, spend $30.
If you wish to send two gifts, send less expensive ones.
If you usually purchae one 25$ gift, send two each worth $15.

Each child could take a small gift or get a larger gift and place both names on it.

I don't think its rude, maybe instead of buying two smaller gifts buy one larger gift. This will also save you a little money in the long run.

I think you only need to bring one gift. Sign both kids names to the card. It is not rude at all.
