OK, here's the question:

3 men go into a restaurant for lunch. Their meals cost $10 each ($30 altogether). However, when the waiter adds up the bill he finds that it is only $25. So he gives $3 change to the men, but puts the remaining $2 in his pocket. (He's cheeky ;)

However - this means the men only paid $9 each for their meal (and $9 times 3 is $27) since they each got $1 change back.
Now the waiter has the $2, making that $29.

So where is the missing dollar?

Good luck working this one out - I first came across this logic question a year ago and it took Mum, Dad and my teacher to work it out!

It's all a matter of adding and subtracting at the right time...

The bellhop will tell you they paid $27 dollars and pocketed 2 for himself = $29

But look at it like this

Each Man put $10 for his part of the meal = $30
Actual Bill for Meal = $25
$ 1 Change Given Back To Each Man = $3
Bell Hop Tip = $2

$25 +$3 +$2 = $30 it's all there...

Just forget about the each man paid $9 part, it's there to confuse you..

There's a similar riddle attached in the link, same problem

If the men gave $10 each, but got $1.00 back, that means they paid $27 dollars for a $25 meal and the waiter got $2, which makes the total $27 dollars, not $30. There is no missing dollar. You must have been the waiter, cheeky devil! We don't have to add up to $30, we have to add up to $27, which we do.

3 x 9$ = 27$ (which includes the 2 dollar tip)
27$ - 2$ = 25$ (or 3x10$ - 5$)

no missing dollar

they didn't each pay $9... they each payed 9 and 1/3 dollars times 3 is 28 plus 2 = 30... not that difficult... of course, I'm a math nerd, so I guess it may be hard...
