I dont think so, only if you heard from a vet. It is best to use a flea shampoo since it is PH balanced for a dog

Regular Dawn dishwashing liquid is perfectly fine to use on your dog. It is often recommended by vets for use on pets. It is also used by the Wildlife Federation on birds that have come in contact with oil and other substances.
Dawn is actually safer then the OTC flea shampoos.(don't use OTC flea products including shampoos and flea collars..they can cause serious problems..seizures, neurological issues even death)
Do not rewash the dog with any other kind of shampoo including baby shampoo afterwards...Any shampoo (even those formulated for dogs) will remove oils from the coat & skin and will have a drying effect but these oils will be back in the skin/hair within 24 -48 hours after bathing.
No shampoo including flea shampoos will keep fleas off yuor dog..they only kill those present at the time of bathing and will only remove those eggs and larve present at that time as well. This is why it is important to get a good safe flea product from your vet and apply it.

Once you have washed your dog with Dawn make sure ot rinse thoroughly (don't get in eyes, ears or mouth something you should avoid with ANY shampoo/soap) then wait 24 -48 hours and apply a good safe flea product from your vet such as Advantage or Frontline. Remeber you need to also treat your home..(don't use bombs unless you plan on taking everything out of a room first and simply use it in an empty room, because otherwise it just goes up in the air and down on surfaces where fleas aren't)godo thorough vaccumning is best throwing away the bag in an outside trash container after each vaccumning session. Pay particular attention to baseboards, under furniture, couch and chair cushions.

YES!!! dawn is one of the best soaps to use, use the original blue kind though....now just so Im clear this is not a flea shampoo and will not keep fleas from coming back
Wet your pooch down, soap her up w Dawn (be sure to keep it out of her eyes as dawn is not tear proof) and let it sit on her about 5-7 minutes to soak in & kill the fleas, then rinse her thoroughly...you will need to repeat this about every 2 weeks or when you see new fleas as fleas lay eggs constantly & when they hatch she will need to be bathed agin to kill the new fleas......get some Advantage if you can it works great!!

No. I used it to kill fleas on my dog, and it did a great job at killing the fleas, but my dog now has dry and itchy skin and hot spots as a result of being bathed in Dawn (she has never had dry skin and is 11-years-old). I used JP oatmeal shampoo for dogs from Target last week and the itching has gone down but I am still having to treat the hot spots. DO NOT USE IT - look for other alternatives to killing fleas.

Yes you can use dawn dish soap on a dog but, when you are done you have to use baby shampoo to put the natural oils back into your pets skin and fur.It is only a temporary use unless you are willing to do it weekly.Be careful of pets eyes no matter what soap you use.A vet recommended we do this for our dog when we had one.

NO NO NO NO NO ok got that out of my system dish soap is a degresser yes? dogs have a lot of natural oils and greese in their coats and on ther skin that they need for a lot of reasons like helping repell fleas and ticks and protecting them from rain and a boatload of other things by using a degresser like dish soap you have just stripped them of all their natural defenses not to mention drying their skin out and althrough i am not entirely sure if it will kill the live fleas which it may, it probably wont kill their eggs which will then hatch into a nice clean oil free coat and they love that like nothing else and they will take over twice as bad
personally i think the whole flea bath idea isnt such a good one either because it only kills the fleas and eggs ON the dog but the dogs bed may have the single flea needed to reinfest the dog kinda frustrating eh?
i have always gone with (since they've been out) a flea tablet such as frontline or advantage it stop the intial infestation and will kill any fleas existing on the dog or cat and takes the guess work out of it and its a hell of a lot easier then bathing a fighting dog with dish soap that may not work....work smarter not harder i always say

I have heard the same thing but have never tried it. I would get a good flea shampoo if she has fleas. Have you considered using Frontline or Advantage to control this problem? I have 2 dogs and use Frontline and we have been very lucky so far - no fleas. Good luck, hope they are gone soon.

dawn does work to kill fleas but not by putting it on them in a bath this will only dry out the dogs skin. if you get some borax (in your local grocery store) put it in your carpets and leave there for an hour or so to dry out the fleas in the carpet you can also use it on furniture. and get sergents flea and tick shampoo for dogs this is what you should bathe them in to get rid of fleas and ticks. make sure you leave it on for about 10 minuets. then when drying and combing through the fur for the fleas to make sure you got them all out you can check for flea dirt. it looks like little grains of dirt that stick to the skin and fur. these are flea eggs. you should get a preventative like frontline plus. this kills fleas and ticks and the eggs. i have also heard that giving your dog garlic in small doses helps to prevent fleas and ticks. on another note if you have a yard it would be good to treat it for fleas and ticks for the summer as this is like breeding season for fleas and ticks.

No, dishwashing liquid is too harsh for a dog's skin and it will dry it out, thereby adding to the misery of the itching caused by the fleas. Get the prevention that is applied between the shoulder blades. It will kill the fleas and last for a month. Your vet has it.

Definitely NOT!!!! I have 2 dogs, and this is not recommended. The pH value on soap/shampoo for human and dogs are different. More problems might occur if you do use dawn on dogs.

Use antifleas shampoo for a start, if problems still occur, see a vet. I have spent more than 1k for dog problems, and there are no hair on my dog(pomeranian) now, imagine that.

please don't use dishwashing detergents on your pets.
Tea tree oil is a good flea repellent. We use it in conjunction with (a natural derived ingredient-which means no sulphates/detergents of any sort) shampoo when we bathe our dogs. Wash your dog's beddings regularly and also your own to kill flea eggs. If your house is carpeted get that flea treated as well. GO see a vet and get a flea treatment plan for your pet.
