If he is 15 or older, he just gets on the plane as there are no restrictions. However if he is under 15, you need to call the airline to buy the ticket. They will charge you a small fee and keep an eye on him. Children are allowed to fly unaccompanied from the age of 5 on.

Those are American Airlines rules. However since all the airlines vary their rules, you need to go on-line and check the specific ones for your airline.

I flew solo to Florida when I was 9. All you need is to go online and purchase tickets, and if you want, you can pay extra for a flight attendant to accompany your teen.

You can pay extra for a chaperon to go the entire trip with him. Someone will need to meet him and sign to get him on the other side. They treat them really nice!

You call the Airline and they have a Stewardess watch over them and make sure they get to where they need to be. It cost Extra, but it's worth the Peace of Mind...

You can fly by yourself ... air lines will usually have one of the flight attendents check up on the person if you request it... i flew to california by myself at like 11 maybe younger...

it depends on where u buy the tickets. if u buy them on jetblue.com, anyone over 13 is considered an adult so he can fly alone with no extra charge.
