Visit any Air Force recruiting station in your area--see the recruiter for details--good luck.

Don't go to a recruiter until you know the facts...

Know the Air Force
Talk to people in the Air Force, there are some crap jobs in the Air Force that your recruiter will try to push. Either because he simply doesn't know or he's desperate.
Figure out what specifically you want and how it fits best with a military service (ie if you want college your gonna want a less "field ready" job, if you want travel you want to be associated with careers that go places, if you want a challenge you want EOD)

Know the knowledge
The ASVAB is the test you take that determines what careers you can get. Get less than an 80 for the Air Force and your career prospects are grim, studying is key, check out some study guides at a public library. Though this really depends on how much time you have, if you have a month until you need to decide grit your teeth and just go on the knowledge you have in your cranium.

Know thy Enemy
You recruiter will seem like the friendliest guy on Earth, but here's the truth, with an overcrowded service like the Air Force he's getting desperate to get new people into jobs they don't want

Recruited
It's always better to go to the recruiter with someone you know and trust. Someone who can help you think. Ask questions; How do I get promoted/promoted faster? How long is Tech school? What are the current bases available for this job? Ask anything that you couldn't find out on your own. If he doesn't know, either he should find out or direct you where to get the answer

As far as tasks that need accomplished before you join the military:
Obtain a High school diploma
Make sure you have some sort of Governement issued ID, birth certificate, and social security card
Track down your entire residential history (everywhere you've lived)
Make a complete history of your legal history (if you've ever had any run-ins with the law, close relatives who've had questionable overseas dealings, don't try to hide mistakes you've made)
Gather all your medical information (broken arms, allergies, rehab, prescriptions etc.)

God Bless and Good luck
The Air Force is one of the best choices you can make

EDIT: I almost forgot to add the most important rule: everyone has their own reasons for joining the military (money, job stability, college) but if serving your country isn't in the top three go do something else, you won't like it in the military

thats good advice, the air force is over maned and you will be made promises they just can't keep. I'd suggest talking to recruiters from other branches also just to see what the have to offer. Alothough the army isn't the most glamorous job in the world, they will be able to offer a bigger job selection, and the army has the biggest signing bonuses. They don't hand out pink slips like the af has been doing either. Good luck and god bless

Step one would be to talk to a Navy or Marines recruiter... they're the only branches worth joining anyway.

Air force flies planes. Big whoop.

Navy flies planes off a ships in the middle of the ocean from anywhere, to anywhere. Can the chair force do that? Nope.
