Hmmm...beats me.
I love Catholics...with ketchup and salt.

Oh I thank ye lord... I thank ye...that I am not like the rest of the riffraff on these lists. I go to mass every day, pay my fair contribution to the lawd, say each of the holllllllly mysteries of the rosary every day! I pray for the heathens that they'll find their way to the church and especially the heretics who deserve ever lasting damnation but will see the errors of their ways thanks to those who pray for them like me!
Well she was right about the rosaries and the veils at one time but that sounds like the 50'. How times have changed. Fewer people go to mass regularily and many young sexy girls coming to church dressed in revealing clothes from transparent clothes to mini skirts looking more like ancient temple harlots than nuns in training. I see so few boasting about their RC church attendance in this day and age.

I was born and bred a Catholic but when I met my husband (my boyfriend then), I went to study the bible with Jehovah's Witnesses. Studying the bible was not bad, in fact, I learned a lot of things I didn't know when I was yet a Catholic. The nuns in school did not teach us how to study the bible, only that we were read scriptures everyday and that was that.
Anyway, I am not against Catholics, only the teachings of the Church that are contrary to what the Bible says. And it is true that the ones who display their piousness are the ones really deep in sin. I used to have a neighbor who went to church everyday. Very religious, in fact. Had all the images of the saints in her prayer room and lighted the candles all evening. The truth is, she was one to curse her helpers when they did wrong. She was not a friendly neighbor, she was very nosy. I don't think she learned anything from her daily visits to the church. In fact, it was just an act for her neighbors(the ones who did not know her well) to see and exclaim that she was a very devoted Catholic.

I'm not sure about Catholics specifically, but definitely Christians. Jesus said it is better to pray alone in your room than in the temple (church) where others can see you. This would be to avoid going to church to "be seen". People shouldn't boast about their religion, most of the time, they just want people to see how wonderful they are, and they're usually full of it.

The Bible said "Pride goeth before a fall".
People with the Loudest mouths are usually the most guilty in the secret life!

I would think that what she meant was, if a man has to tell you "how good he is" he isn't someone you want to date... marry. On the opther hand, if you (and others) can see that a man lives the Christian life, etc. he's the kind you want to have a future with.

Sounds very prejudice to me. Your mom seems to have a laundry list of "issues" with Catholics - but does she have reasons WHY she takes issue with Catholics?

No....my Mom is one of those ladies and she's a very good woman.
The things your mother was talking about is just who they are...it's how they identify themselves.
Judge a person by how they treat you, others, and themselves.....no matter what religion they are.

She is very right, these are the same people that Jesus rebuked and John the Baptist called a "brood of vipers." Its the actions, not the words, that count.

Are you trying to say its not good to pray and show respect for God? It's not good to boast, but the things you say are good things to do, nothing to be warned about.

Your mom was right. Any one who boasts about being that religious is trying to cover up something.
