It shows a lack of creative command of the language. It's also insulting to those around them. While some people think it adds "emphasis" or "impact" to their speech, it dilutes it with unnecessary and offensive words, and loses the impact because they are no longer "special" words reserved for "special" occasions.

A case in point is my mother, who dislikes cussing tremedously and extremely rarely uses it. She used to be a secretary at the town road department. Just imagine the cursing that went on around her there. But the men respected her and held their tongues or apologized when they let one "slip" in her presence.

Well... one day, she was trying to balance the budget, and the numbers were just not balancing out. Finally, in total frustration, she exclaimed, "Oh DA*N, I just can't get this to work out!" You should have seen the looks of SHOCK on the faces of the men around her! A curse word!? In this case, the curse word truly had the impact it was meant to have simply because it was not used. Truly, it had shock value."

But for those who use curse words excessively, it is indicative of mindless inattention to the oral drivel coming out of their mouths. Just remember what Matthew 15:11 says, "Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man."
