Obviously as a species we do because almost universally we do things to make money that damage our air and water to a large and uneccessary extent (a little damage is necessary, like breathing, but I'm not talking about that). Air and water are more primary needs. Why are we destroying our own habitat? We humans are pretty clever but why can't we see the danger in that?

I'm sorry Noone but with all the money in the world we can't buy a new atmosphere or new oceans. Do you even understand the scale of the problem?

Because we know what it's like to live without money. If you took away our air and water, I bet our priorities would change.

I would argue that out of all creatures in the animal kingdom, we are the only species that do not realize the danger of the fact that if the planet runs out of natural resources, we will be the first ones to go extinct. I mean think about it - we've evolved as creatures who have no need to hunt for food, we can't possibly survive naked in the desert or in the cold, we can't live without computers and technology nowadays - we humans are conflicting creatures. Why are we destroying our own habitat? Because it is our nature to want to "defy" destiny and to destroy ourselves. If the world ever ends, it will be because of our desire to destroy ourselves like a nuclear war, more so than global warming. Money causes greed, which turns into a desire for power, which turns into hatred for those we fear will take our power away, which in the end, will destroy us all.

I absolutely agree with you on this point but as we've always tried, all we can do to air and water is just anti-pollution measures. You may try to bring awareness among people around the globe to cut down on pollution but the question is: Does this measure gonna sustain pollution control for good? The answer is NO because millions of babies are being born each second around the world that means this very population explosion will never let pollution under control as such it'd become an continuous process until human beings are left with no resources for consumption.

We as a species are very quick to take things for granted. Air and water are plentiful and free. Why worry about it right? We wait until the outcries are impossible to ignore before we take note and act. There's a real possibility that there will be an entire marine ecosystem collapse in about 50 years. No more sea creatures, no more seafood but we won't even worry about it until its too late to fix. We worry about global warming until the effects are practically impossible to reverse.
Unlike the rest of the animal kingdom we don't survive, we live. We don't worry about sustaining our lives and to that end we fail to respect the world around us.

We take air and water for granted, we think it is always going to be there. Unlike money. We have to work for money, in order to have it, we don't have to work for water or air, we just have to breathe air and that isn't really work, water is supplied from the faucet, either at work, or at home or elsewhere, so it is taken for granted. We think it is always going to be there. But we do need to money to keep the water in our homes as well. So that we can drink, and take a bath, so our kids can play in the waterhose, etc. But we know money will run out eventually, so we don't take that for granted.

Because we can't use it to buy things and its always been around. Every scence the beging of the world the amount of water never changed just reused over and over again. It can't be contained for money so thats why we don't use it. It sucksthough because it's just hurting us all in the end.

Two answers:
"We" don't always think of others. "We" often think of our our imediate concerns and getting through the day, week, month.
I have a theory about money; If I was a fisherman and you where a farmer, we might be perfectly happy to trade fish and apples all year long. Howver, at the end of the year the taxman is going to want 20% or 60% (federal state and local). And the taxman doesn't want fish or apples, the taxman wants currency. The penalty for not paying is jail. So, if we want to trade for food, shelter, etc. we are forced to trade currency :(.
