Okay, well this may sound like a crazy question but here it goes...

If someone asks you to marry them, and they give you the engagement ring and everything... do you use it for the wedding ring or what? Or do you buy a wedding ring set and use 1/2 for the engagement and the other 1/2 for the wedding?

Usually a wedding band is bought for use at the ceremony. The engagement ring and wedding band can be bought as a set, or separately.

You can do either/or. Some people get a set of rings - the engagement ring is worn by itself between the engagement and the wedding, and then the wedding band (that the engagement ring kind of fits into) gets put on, and they are worn together. Or you can get an engagement ring first, and then pick out a wedding band that matches. You can even get rings that don't match at all, if this is what you want - you can always wear the wedding band on the left hand, and the engagement ring on the right. It is completely up to you.

The engagement ring is the one with the diamond ( usually a solitaire diamond) and the wedding ring is the band. Yes they can be bought as a set, using the band on the wedding day to rejoin the set. A lot of ring sets come with the engagement, wedding band and the wedding band for the groom. Use the bands at the wedding then you can put the engagement ring and the band together after the ceremony.

The tradition is to get an engagement ring at the proposal that has the main diamond. You wear this until the day of the wedding, when you and your husband will exchange plain gold bands that you would wear alongside your engagement ring. Many people solder them together, or buy them all together so that they pre-match and fit together. Traditionally, the groom does not wear his ring until the wedding. But, feel free to scrap all this and do what you want. I love my engagement ring exactly as it is, and don't want a wedding band, so I'm not having one. My fiance already has his wedding band and is wearing it before the wedding, because he wants to. We are just going to take our rings in for a cleanup the week before the wedding, and use them to exchange during the ceremony. As long as you each have a ring you love, don't worry about it. My husband didn't even want to wear a ring at first, because he thought it would look too feminine. He's changed his mind now, but we considered a lot of untraditional options like a watch, or cuff links.

If your ring is a big whopper, LOL, and you couldnt afford another ring as a wedding band you could wear your diamond, same as some people only wear their wedding band. But typically you could get a set and where the engagment ring for the engagment and add the band when you get married. Doesnt matter if you wear the engagment ring and use it for your wedding ring because traditionally you take off the engagment ring during the ceremony and put it back after you are married because it is wives tale that you should wear you wedding band closet to your heart!!!

You can either buy a separate engagement ring (usually a solitaire) and when getting married choose a band that compliments it OR you buy a set and wear the engagement ring part, keeping the wedding band hidden away in a drawer until the big day and then wear both.

If you buy a set, you wear the engagement ring until the wedding and then you wear both when you get married and wear the wedding ring.

It is really up to you. Traditionally you buy a wedding ring set for you and your fiance, but you dont have to. My engagement ring was not part of a set and I havent been able to find a wedding ring that will fit right with it and cannot afford to have one made to fit, so I'm going to wear my engagement ring as my wedding ring until I can find one and for now just buy a wedding ring for my fiance.

I did it all backwards when my husband proposed.

He bought me (years before we started dating) a black hills gold ring with a rose on it. It was a friendship ring at the time. I wore it all the time when he gave it to me. Then, two years later, after we started dating, he proposed to me from Kuwait (I was in Saudi Arabia, both of us were deployed at the same time). I was still wearing the ring. I decided to make it my engagement ring.

When we got married, I bought a solitare diamond ring (usually meant to be an engagement ring) and now use that as my wedding wedding ring. I wear the two as a set, and get compliments daily!
