I have a shi tzu and she sleeps on our bed with us. I would never tell her to get off and sleep somewhere else she deserves to be comfortable too.

Very dog dependent. Some sleep on the bed (they choose who), most others around the base of the bed or in open crates in the same room. Others sleep in the back room or in any avialable open crate. One or two prefer to be outside at night but can come in if they want.

I don't think that's true. My dog's sleep where ever they choose.
I've read Cesar Millan's book about being the Alpha and that was never mentioned. A few things it did say is that you aren't suppose to let you dog walk through a doorway before you. You should also mix your dogs food with your hands so your scent is on the food (again showing you are the Alpha). Also, when walking your dog on a leash don't let you dog lead you!!
No where in the book did it mention you shouldn't sleep with your dog.

They are correct, in a natural dog pack sleeping arrangements can be a symbol of status. From my experience this really depends on the dog.
Our dog sleeps on his bed, which is next to me. This is just simply because I prefer to have my dogs sleep on the floor. He is allowed to visit us in the morning when we wake up, once he is asked. Hes got a great comfy bed, and would never think twice about sleeping there.
Having said that, if your dog is otherwise respectful and obedient to you, theres no problem if its ok with you. In situations where people have a demanding dog, or a hyper dog, or even a dominant dog its a good way to help them learn where they belong in the family.
The best tool for figuring out if your dog belongs on the bed is to see if they respect you enough to get off when told to. If they do, theres no problem...if they look at you like you are full of beans then just buy her a great big fluffy mat and she'll be just as happy & well behaved.

Our Dog Bruno sleeps with my parents but sometimes he will sleep with me. Our puppy Chico for the first two days he slept outside in his cage underneath the table. But for the last 5 days he has slept inside our house in the kitchen because of the rain. When it is sunny than he will sleep outside but when it is raining or a thunderstorm he will sleep inside. Here in Portugal where I am living it is very common people's dogs to sleep outside since the weather here is not freezing and cold. 15 degrees in the winter and 30 degrees is the summer.

There are two opinions on this subject. One method of training does not encourage hands on love and cuddling-supposedly the dog will see it as a sign of submission. The other side is that you can really train your dog to do whatever you want and still be king and queen in the bed. We have owned dogs for 20 years and all of them have slept with us. We have never really had any behavior issues with any of them.

Our oldest Boston sleeps in my parents room on her own little dog bed. The two other Bostons sleep either on the floor on a blanket or in my bed. My 1 1/2 year old Lab sleeps on his dog bed on the floor - he will come up on my bed when I invite him but only for a little bit because he gets too hot. I often find him stretched out with his head underneath the bed, lol.
My 9 month old Lab sleeps in her crate in my room.
I think if your dog is having behavioral problems you shouldn't allow them on the bed - however I've never had any issues with my dogs. They are taught that they are only allowed up in bed when I tell them "bed".

I have 3 large dogs and they all sleep on my bed. I am the Alpha dog , asleep or awake. They are there because I let them be there and they know they would be on the floor anytime I choose.

Ours has her own bed in our room, it's on the floor and she sleeps there. But I don't think it'll lessen you as the alpha dog, that's obvious durring the day if you make it so.
