Have ever been fired from your job for no reason?
I had a supervisor,everytime I said good morning
he would say shut the f*** up and get to work.He
said he could fire for no reason and I could not do anything about it because he said he hated my guts. I did my job and tried to mean well. He was a
bully. If you were fired for no reason what did you do?

Legally, under the common law you can quit your job without cause and they can fire you without cause. However, they cannot fire you for an ILLEGAL reason (age, race, gender, whistlblowing, etc..) disliking someone is not an illegal reason to fire them unless he disliked you because of your age, race, gender, or if you reported the company. I was fired or laid off for no reason when I was temping as a kid so obviously they had no duty to keep me on, in that case it was simply because they were paying the temp agency 3 times what they paid me, so they could hire people to do the job cheaper. FYI I find the best way to handle people like that is to be nicer to them the meaner they are to you becaus it just makes you look better in everyone elses eyes and also makes them feel very weak because they can't intimadte you

Most states... Illinois in particular... are "at will" employment states. This means, among other things, that an employer can fire you for no reason. In fact it is sometimes advantageous for employers to do so as providing a reason is sometimes the basis for a lawsuit. An improperly worded reason from the employer might open them up to discrimination litigation.

Here is what it boils down to: An employer might give a reason (tardy, abusive language, drug use) in order to avoid paying unemployment. However, if an employer doesn't give a reason you will get unemployment virtually without a fight.

If your former boss is truly a bad person, chalk it up to bad luck, remember what you learned and get a better job. If you were truly a bad employee, improve your performance and get a better job. Unemployment payments don't last long, use the time and money to improve your position in life.

By the way... I forget how many children we have here.... If you are a part time employee... you may not be eligible for unemployment protection.

Cheers!

I would talk to your supervisor's boss and I would bring up the fact that there is a "hostile work environment." Talk to your hr department and document the heck out of the everything (try to record the supervisor doing this). I would also talk to a lawyer about it and see what can be done.

I worked for a company where the supervisor undermined everything I did because I was a threat to her (hence I got fired). Had I lined everything up and got documentation I would have sued the company.

I was fired for a myriad of reasons (most of which had little to do with me) and there's not much to do. My employer tried to fight my unemployment, but I complained to Workforce Development and that was short lived. I ended up getting a new job in two weeks at much higher pay. :) In your situation you could have gone to HR, since his behavior creates a "hostile environment" which is illegal. Most employment is "at will" so they can fire you and not give a reason.

There is always a reason. Always. His behavior was completely inappropriate and if the company has an HR department, you need to file a complaint. (Even if you've already been fired).

I've never been fired for no reason. There's no such thing. Even if the reason is a personality clash, there's always a reason.

Well technically, it's your word against his if you report it. But I believe that someone hating you is not a good cause for firing, you can go to the labor board of your state and report it. My former boss hated the fact that I chose to return to school for something that did not pertain to the job, and while they couldn't fire me for it, they can make your life so miserable that you will quit. I can't prove it, but that's what I believe happened.

I honestly would say you're lucky he fired you before he did something worse to you. Just let it go and go look for the next job.

Usually when you sign your application, it states at the bottom that you can be terminated with or without cause, with or without notice.
