You say you bought it from a private person except he is a dealer? Something is wrong. Most states that would be illegal for him to do. All transactions must be through the dealer. If he just works for a dealer as a salesperson its called curbing a car and he could go to jail over it. If he is a mechanic at a dealer then its a private sale. What makes you think the guy is a dealer? The best person to ask this queation of is the vehicle sales division of your local motor vehicle bureau. They are up on the latest laws and will not charge you to assist you in what ever you need to do. Thats what they are there for. Call your local dmv office and they can direct you to the right division.

Where I live in Massachusetts, the law is any vehicle over $699 is subject to the "Lemon Law". Basically the law states that any vehicle that does not pass inspection within 30 days of purchase can be returned to the seller if the cost of the repair is more than 10% of the purchase price. Only new vehicles can be returned if you are not satisfied with them (meaning you just don't like it), within 7 days of purchase. Many states have this same law, not sure if CA is one of them.

A little greater than you could pay in a well unbiased storage however please undergo this in brain. A provider will probably be elementary at a collection cost. It is not going to comprise the constituents that may put on at the brakes for illustration or many different constituents with the intention to possibly want doing earlier than an MOT go will also be won. These will probably be charged additional if required and permitted by way of you. If the vehicle is due for a provider then, fine, get it performed someplace however do not anticipate it to be a medication all to get it by way of the MOT experiment as theres plenty of stuff simply inspected and no longer altered by way of a provider and plenty extra stuff checked out by way of an MOT examiner that's no longer handled on a elementary provider that is what the KF quote is for.

where are you from?
it depends, but here in Hawaii, there is NO LEMON law that applies to used vehicles. You are stuck with the vehicle if you buy it. I am a car dealer, and I have to remind people all the time of the seriousness of their purchase, stating additionally that their is no return law for a unreliable vehicle.
they always say to me " You sold me a car with a bad -_-_- whatever....."
and I always say to myself "No, you bought a car with a bad ........ whatever" because most people aren't patient enough to have a mechanic look at it before they purchase it.
Wake up, and take responsibility for your actions...

California has a law that allows you to cancel your contract within two days of purchase if the price of the vehicle is less than $40k.

You should have some sort of "Contract Cancellation" notice or disclosure in your paperwork.
