My son had the surgery to fix Pyloric stenosis on May 20th. His incision was healing fine then about 2 weeks ago I noticed it was a little red on one side. Now the past 2 days it looks red and infected. What should I use to clean it with? Is this normal that almost a month after surgery the incision isn't healed yet?

The healing pocess is a bit delayed which is quite not normal. Better to have your doctor reevaluate it. For the meantime, clean it with a sterile cotton soaked with betadine and be sure to keep the wound area clean and protected from any source of contamination.

My daughter had this and was healed up in just a few days. I would contact the doctor and have it looked it. He may have an infection that requires more than a topical antibiotic cream. In the mean time before you take him in I would keep it clean and put antibiotic cream on it and do not bandage, let the air at it if you can. Good luck and enjoy your new baby!

That incision should be healed by now.

Have the surgeon look at him ASAP. It's much easier to treat wound infections early than late. He may have infection under the skin that needs to be drained - only the surgeon can tell if that's the case after laying eyes on your son.

His surgeon WANTS to know about these things, so don't hesitate to call.

Once again, Pangolin gets it right. Call the surgeon.

My guess is that it is a piece of suture material that normally would be absorbed, but for some reason didn't.

a skin infection won't be cured just by washing, no matter what you wash it with. he needs antibiotics. just like everyone else said- call the doctor
