You definitely sound like a candidate for a thorough medical and mental check up. Sounds like you are already having panic attacks and hyperventilating, but get into a doctor soon and get it all checked out to be on the safe side. There are therapeutic meds and meditation and breathing exercises to alleviate some of these symptoms, but you need to rule out major medical problems, such as heart disease, asthma, cancer etc. before anything can be established. God bless you.

I have been diagnosed with anxiety, but it took me 45 years to go to the doc. .Mildly, kava, camomille teas, b vitamins, do help. But there aint nothing better than a doc prescribed med, like Lexipro, Paxil, etc... It is not a sedative, it helps with the seratonin levels in your brain. One panic attack at an intersection waiting for lite to turn red, had me avoiding left hand lanes for years. Ican laughnow, because it is a thing of the past. But, when you feel an attack coming on, breathe in deep, and release slowly. Do it for about a minute...& don't hyperventilate...Slow deep in, let the air out slowly...

There are a few things to do.

1. Go see a shrink. Get diagnosed. Get some medication that will help ease the symptoms.
2. Go see a therapists and work on the issues.
3. Help yourself. Get exercise, find ways to relax, take vitamins, do things that make you feel calm, work on breathing exercises, meditate. Buy some self help books.

Talk to a psychiatrist immediately.

General practitioners usually don't have the specialized training needed for this kind of problem, but they will usually be able to see you more quickly than a psych doctor. Maybe get some tranquilizers from him/her, but leave long term solutions to your problem to a psych doctor.

Ativan (or adivan) will help, and it is dirt cheap.

Many of my friends have had good luck with effexor for a long term solution, since it works immediately (unlike SSRI's like prozac, paxil, or zoloft which can take three weeks).

Best of luck.

Try to identify why you're having panic attacks--- stop and think them through--are they rational or just pop out of nowhere. Breathe slow and deep when these happen and think quiet, happy thoughts. Exercise 20 minutes three times a week---could be lack of exercise....fresh air helps.

Have you been stressed out about anything recently? I too suffer from anxiety issues and obviously it is brought on generally by stress. My best advice is to go see your doctor. He or she can evaluate you and prescribe you medication if need be.

Meditate! close your eyes and calm yourself by thinking of something positive... breath in breathe out, inhale, exhale! Don't think about negative things... always stay positive no matter what.

Realize that its all in your mind. Take deep breaths and relax. If you are in a public place, casually go to a bathroom and splash some water on your face. Realize that it will go away and that you are alright.
