people study when they have homework for school, people study in college, people even study when it comes to taking their driving test, but why do people ask questions without studying or cross referencing themselves when it comes to the bible...anybody can repeat what they heard but intelligence will seek the truth...

Because ,for all the talk saome people make about being"open minded" most people aren't. They will make up their mind about something and then look for those things which back up their personal beliefs and discount those that don't.Therre is a book out called True Believer which talks about this problem and how all groups have them. They are by nature people who live by the Philosophy"Don"t confuse me with the facts"

I think it is important for people to read the Bible for themselves. However, one issue with people reading it is that some of the language is so outdated that it's very difficult to put it into context. I think it makes more sense to a lot of people when they can study it with a Bible study group, or just talk to someone else about it.

I love this question and what you wrote. This is so true. I wonder why people don't read the Bible more and see for what they believe after reading it. Maybe they are afraid they will believe and have to give up something they don't want to give up.

At my church, at our Bible study we use different versions of the Bible, there are versions that are more understandable than others.

I have read the Bible for years and the more I know the more I believe.

Seeing is believing - NOT
Knowing is believing!

The great man of Serbian past, bishop Nikolai Velimirovich, when he was imprisoned in Nazi camp in Dachau, replied to the question how can someone of his intellect believe in God: "I don't believe in God, I know there is God" (bishop was Dr. of Theology (University in Bern) and Dr. of Philosophy (Oxford)). Christian church, at least the early one and today the Orthodox Christianity, never saw God as some demiurg, but as a person who communicates to every single man on the level of his comprehension and possibilities. There are no signs - there are just feelings and knowledge. To be able to communicate with God, one needs at first to understand the Word of God - the Bible. Jesus is one hipostasis of God, and he spoke to us. We cannot believe Him if we don't know Him - and to know Him one needs to know the Bible. (Many other religions teach the same, That's why all these scriptures have prefix "Holly" - they are the word from "the above". However, in Christianism, it is not the word "from the above" but from right here, on Earth, said by the God Himself - from blessed Marry and the Holy Spirit born Jesus Christ!). Reading the Bible on our own is of the greatest importance. Questions should be asked only with the purpose of guidance or in a case of difficulty to understand what it is written. But the Bible is meant to speak directly to us, not through some mediators. Amen!

People who are hard core religious fanatics and all into the bible don't generally support intelligence and education. It's a known fact that the more educated someone is the less likely they will be to follow a religion.

People do not study the Bible closely because it conflicts with their tradional beliefs.

How can they reconcile a Jewish Messiah who kept His Father's Law perfectly with a religion that rejects that same Law?

I studied the Bible in college and it was a slow read, but it didn't convince me to become Christian. So I remained a Pagan and I love to quote the Bible or help others who say they are Christian find the truth.

Be careful what you suggest.
It was reading and studying the bible cover to cover that stopped me believing it...

Whatever religion they practise only gives them the passages to support their point of view. They're not supposed to read the rest. It might cause them to think for themselves!

You might be right, but I am thankful that at least they are asking questions. Who knows, maybe good answers can spark further interest. Let's hope that. Peace.
