So I dont have reverse in my automatic AOD mustang fox body transmission. It has park and first to over drive but no reverse when you stick it into reverse the car acts as if the brakes are on it just kinda moves alittle. So what could the problem be?

Lots of things can cause this. First check the linkage/ If it moves foward in neutral and the linkage park etc are in the right place you have a foward clutch failure, this clutch when it does not release will bind in reverse. This usually happens when it has a leak and it is slipped till it welds itself together inside. Even in park its acts like its under load.

It sounds like the forward clutch is not properly disengaging to allow the reverse clutch to do its job. In other words, the forward and reverse clutches are butting heads. I suggest finding a good used trans. or see what a local trans. specialty repair shop says. They might have a valve body kit to fix this problem or quick fix. Oh, i forgot to add something, check to see if the shifter adjustment is correct and replace worn shifter linkage bushings.

Low reverse brake inside the transmission or some other failure requiring total overhaul of the automatic gearbox. Good luck
