The best burger I've had in a long time was in Texas. In Denton, Denton County, Texas (about 30 miles north of Dallas) there is a pair of burger joints called (appropriately) "Denton County Independent Hamburger Company." There are only two of them - it's not a chain. They make the patties by hand, the same day - no freezing, no flattening into a pancake; they purchase their meat from a nearby Winn-Dixie supermarket. They are cooked over an open flame - no frying. They are served with whatever you like; in Texas, a normal burger is about a half-pound before cooking, and has mustard, pickle, tomato, lettuce, and onion - no "special sauces," and no mayonnaise unless a heretical customer requests it ;-)
They are served with home fries - a LOT of home fries - like one serving is plenty for two people. They are deep-fried from unpeeled potatoes that have been hand-cut the same day from the same grocery store. If you want cheese, you do NOT get American cheese - you get grated cheddar cheese piled generously on top of the pattie.
Such a burger MUST be served with copious amounts of either sweet iced tea, or Dr Pepper, the National Drink of Texas. If you really push it, they do have Coke and 7-Up, but people will look at you funny
Lastly, if you want dessert, the only one available is Bluebell Ice Cream, made in Brenham, Texas (near Houston); I have been all over the U.S., and I have yet to taste ANY ice cream that is as good - not even Ben and Jerry's. I recommend the peaches and homemade vanilla, if you get there during peach season.
It is an utterly Texan hambuger; now I want one, and I'm in Seattle!!!!!

The best tasting Hamburger I've ever had, was at AppleBee's. The beef patty is real thick it's like no other hamburger. And the bun is lightly toasted. I think I'll get me one very soon.
Happy Eating!

Cheeseburger in paradise. The name says it all.Cheeseburger... paradise... what can be better? they fact that you are in Oahu, Hawaii eating USDA beef with a grilled pineapple slice that was grown a few miles away at the dole plantation. The juice from the pineapple does it. Best cheeseburger around. Huge too

5 Guys. Maryland All fresh ground beef cooked on an open grill. The burger is so fat only a grown man can bite it without hurting his jaw. I love them because everything is fresh and prepared in front of you

From room service at the Jerusalem Hilton.
I think it was lamb, not beef. But it was mixed with spices that made it taste like Greek/Mediterranean food (cumin, garlic, whatever) and served on a french-bread bun with sauteed onions and olive paste. OMG.

One of my favorite burgers is one I make from a recipe taught to me by my mom.
It consists of two burger patties with cheese and sliced onion in between, grilled to perfection! The cheese (any flavor) keeps the burgers nice and juicy, and the onions cook down until they are tender.
