I have been asked to babysit a 5 month old little boy in his home, while his mom is there, unpacking things from their recent move. It will be for three days, 4-5 hours a day, and she will provide lunch for me. She told me to give her a price, but I haven't sat for money before, only kept my neice and nephew as favors for my sister. Experienced sitters, please give me some help here! What do ya think is fair?

I agree, it really depends where you are in the country. For a periodic sitter I pay $5 per hour (in Idaho). If you know that its going to be a set number of hours you could give her a quote per day or for the full job (like $20 per day up to 5 hours then you get the full $20 even if you're only there for 3 hours; or $75 for all three days even if its longer than 5 hours per day). If you're in a big city like New York I've seen people on Answers who quote $10 or more per hour for babysitting.

Depends on the family and their financial situation. How old are you? My sister is 16 and she is getting $7 an hour to take care of a 5 and 9 year old girls.

It depends on the area, I live in a small town in IL, & $2/hr per kid for a teenager babysitting who is not licensed is the average price. So I'd charge $2/hr & it's great for you cuz she's making & providing your lunch.
