Make sure you get her the Lymes vaccine when you take her to the vet... that's the big imporatint step. Second is to use Frontline. It kills fleas and ticks, it however does not repel them... which means if she does get a tick on her than it will kill it. Those two steps and of course checking her for ticks whenever you can is the best course of action.
If she happens to get a whole lot on her at once you can also take her to the vet and they'll bath her with a special shampoo for fleas & ticks and probably treat her with a special dip to kill all the ticks... but if she doesn't have them on her right now, that's not nessisary.
Another thing you can do is to treat your back yard with Beneficial Nematodes. It's an all natural way to rid your yard of over 250 different species of insects like grubs, fleas, mole crickets, japanese beetles and weevils... here's a site you can find out more about this on, http://www.thebeneficialinsectco.com/beneficial-nematodes.htm
You can probably find this at Home Depot or places that sell a lot of garden supplies.

I use Frontline Plus. Takes care of fleas and ticks. Only problem is the tick has to bite the dog before it dies.
you might check with your vet to see if there is a tick repellant you can use - maybe a spray.

A friend of mine has dogs that he hunts, and to stop them picking up any nasties, he made up a wash of, Malawash, which is a treatment for pests such as scarcoptic mange, half and half with turpentine, he just uses a cloth and wipes it onto his dogs before taking them out, but he does wash his dogs when he gets home. But i have used it before on one of my dogs, she walks thru the brush on our property and kept picking up ticks, frontline or no frontline, so i just wiped her down with it twice a week, and bathed her once a week, no skin reactions from it.

well, yeah, if you walk your dog through a tick-infested area, they will get ticks on them; you will still have to check them after and take them off, but for sure you can give them a monthly anti-tick treatment and also flea and tick shampoo baths and also tick collars. but be careful about loading up on all that stuff at once cuz your dog's skin can get really irritated.

Get a product called Advantix from your vet. It's a once a month topical solution. Unlike Frontline the ticks don't have to bite the dog to get killed. They will fall off and die. Also get your dog vaccinated for Lymes disease.

yes you can buy Revolution from your vet, it covers fleas, ticks, misquitos, heart worms, intestinal perisites, and I believe flies. The price on it is very reasonable, for everything it covers. For a 40-80 pound dog, we pay 16.00 a month.

i use frountline plus but for some reason its not working this year like it should, according to my vet this year is expecially bad for ticks, so what i did was go to home depot or lowes and get a 3 month supply of out door bug spray to spray on your lawn, let me tell you when we sprayed it on our lawn there was a world of difference.
