Has anyone applied for a pantent for an invention? I want to apply for myself and not pay someone to do it for me and take my money. I think they are rip-offs.

For all the people correcting my spelling or giving bogous answers you will not get my vote. I am looking for an answer and not agreements or links to get help with my 'pantents'. I want to file my own paperwork with my lawyer (I want to do the paperwork myself instead of paying my lawyer) and find people to sell it to. So if you don't have an answer to help me do not answer. Thank you very much.

I am a named inventor on a patent application. This application happened to be submitted by a company. I would check www.uspto.gov for tips on how to start. You need to get a provisional patent first...this is inexpensive and relatively easy. Write down your idea clearly and fully, thinking of all possible permutations of the idea, no matter how crazy. Sign and date it then have someone else sign and date it as a witness (use someone who is not related to you). Have it notarized if you can to prove the date. Whoever comes up with the idea first has precedence in the US system, not who files first...different in Europe. Whatever you do, do not disseminate your idea. Once it is in the public domain you lose your right to patent it.

Contact the US Patent Ofice for advice and document everything with dates---if you have legal trouble down the road, you can prove you had the idea on paper first. Get a good patent lawyer to help you with the legal stuff and patent search--not some website or ad.

Just in case you go forward with this...it's called a patent - not a pantent. :)
