Free Masonry, Eastern Star, and other similar "secret" organizations appear to be harmless fellowship gatherings. Many of them appear to promote belief in God. However, upon closer examination, we find that the only belief requirement is not that one must believe in the True and Living God, but rather, that one must believe in the existence of a “Supreme Being”, which includes the “gods” of Islam, Hinduism, or any other world religion. The anti-Biblical and anti-Christian beliefs and practices of this organization are partially hidden beneath an outward appearance of a supposed compatibility with the Christian faith. The following is a comparison of what the Bible says with the "official" position of Free Masonry:
Salvation from Sin:

The Bible’s View: Jesus became the sinner’s sacrifice before God when He shed His blood and died as the propitiation (payment) for the sins of the whole world (Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 5:8, John 3:16).

Mason’s View: The very process of joining the Lodge requires Christians to ignore the exclusivity of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. According to Freemasonry, a person will be saved and go to heaven as a result of his good works and personal self-improvement.

Yes, The truth is that you must have a believe in Deity, A masonic lodge is opened and closed with a prayer directed to the most holy and glorious lord God. The higher degrees of masonry delve deeper into religion but there is none higher than a 33 degree. There is no pressure in joining a lodge and with anything if you want to know the truth about something ask someone who is involved. I mean you wouldn't ask a cop what its like to be a fireman, so why would you ask a minister about this if he is not a member. Just remember this simple motto, "2b1-ask1"

A professing Christian can kill another human being, but he is not allowed to. The same goes for a professing Christian being involved with the Masonic Lodge--he is not allowed to. Masons don't believe in the Triune God. I would venture to say that a Mason that prayed at one of their meetings using the name of Jesus Christ, would be thrown out.

My whole family was Masonic at one point and I used to get so tired of the Christianity since I was and am a Pagan. I was never asked what I believed and both my father and mother were chaplins in their different groups.

Now bring back the good old Pagan days and I'd be there.

Masonry is not a religion or a religious order and is available to all men of faith who wish to better themselves and their communities. In order to become a Mason a man must declare his belief in Deity.

Also, for comparisons sake, I don't know if the Lions Club or Rotary accept atheists, but I believe they do include Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Jews and others. I don't believe very many fraternal or social organizations these days are for "Christians Only".

A professing Christian *can* be involved with the Masons; but no *real* Christian who knows the truth about them would want to!

Later: "kait" has it right! Belief in "a Deity", or belief in "a higher power" does *not* equal belief in the One True God, Creator of the Universe, and in Jesus Christ, His Only Begotten Son! Catholics are forbidden to belong; that's why they have the "Knights Templar". I've heard that at the highest levels, 32nd, 33rd or 34th Degree, they believe, like the Mormons, that Jesus is a *created* being and a brother to Lucifer/Satan!
