No matter what they are cats will hate eachother. Its territory and space. We had a mother cat that hated her daughter and they hissed and batted at eachother all the time.

You're all wrong! He's pissed! Now she won't be going into heat. He knows he won't be getting any! :)
Okay, okay, just kidding. Cats have a language all their own. I don't agree with the first response that cats hate each other. Yes, they're territorial, but they are also social. Since I am a breeder, I have several cats. They all have different personalities. And just as that responder said, I have a mother and daughter and the mother hates the daughter. But it's nothing personal. The mother hates all the cats! Another of your responses said to get rid of the cat if they fight. Don't do that! Give them time. They'll establish some sort peaceful coexistance. Give them time. And like one of your other responses said, Yes, she does have a different scent on her from being at the vet. I had a cat shaved a cute lion cut and when she came home from the groomer all of the cats hissed at her for about a day or two. Just til the scent wore off.

It's probably because she was gone for a while and was at the vet's and was medicated and eating different foods and handled by the vets and veterinarian assistants and doesn't smell right to him. She probably has that "just-back-from-surgery" antiseptic smell. Cats depend a lot more on smell than sight to recognize each other. Give him a little bit of time and once she starts feeling better and eats some of her regular food and has a chance to have a good bath and settle in he'll probably sniff her over and then remember her and calm down. It might help if you take something he's slept on and rub her with it so that she'll smell more familiar to him.

She smelled one way before she was spayed. Now that she is fixed she smells different. She is no longer producing the hormone smell she did before; so he will need time to get used to it. Another thing, why did you have only her fixed and not him. Remember, you did not want her to have kittens in your house from un-neutered males and you are now one of those people that can cause the problem.

If she just came home after being spayed, she may smell funny to him. Give him some time.
