Comparing eras, quality of opponents, and fighting ability and style, who was the pound for pound best in fighting and style? Jack Johnson dominated, Marciano was undefeated, Ali was the greatest, Tyson hit the hardest, personally I thought a lot of Roy Jones Jr. with his defense and power. Or any other fighter you can think of, Hopkins, De La Hoya, Sugar Ray Robinson, etc... You can name more than one, the best of the best. I say Roy Jones Jr. in his prime, and Rocky Marciano, and Tyson in his prime. Who do you say?

There's only one answer, Sugar Ray Robinson is the greatest of all time. Roy Jones isn't even in the top 20 fighters of all time. Sugar Ray Robinson would destroy a prime Roy Jones, Robinson could take a punch unlike glass jawed RJJ.

sugar ray robinson is universally recognized as the best puond for pound fighter ever, not just for the numbers that he had (which where amazing) but also for technique, speed and power,he had the perfect balance, even mohammed ali said that robinson was the best pound for pound fighter (although he sees himself as the greatest heavyweight of course) and that says a lot, and despite many other great boxers no one comes close to robinson when u look at their numbers, marciano was great but he was a brawler, ali was great but his punching power wasn't as good as others of his era, tyson was great but....well u all know what! so that leaves robinson as the best over all other great boxers look up to him even today

As exciting as Tyson was, he doesn't deserve to be rank the best pound-for-pound of all-time. A larger and skilled heavyweight could out box Tyson..... and this is coming from someone who loved Tyson back in the day.

Now on to the question........ I would have to say Sugar Ray Robinson.

Not a lot of film on Marciano and Roy Jones definitely had his undefeated streak going, but Tyson in his prime could have knocked out any Heavyweight that ever lived.

in my opinion sugar ray robinson. he fought and beat best of 2 divisions. in two eras. there was not 4 belts in each division and there was no super or jr middleweight or or welterweights. ali is a close second.

I like that you say the boxer has to be in their prime. With that in mind the only answer is Muhammad Ali. No doubt. Ali-Liston I & II prove that. Float like a butterfly sting like a bee.

I would say Tyson, I think that fighters have progressively gotten better and better over the years, getting stronger and learning techniques passed onto them. Tyson was a brawler and a competitor, and most importantly he was crazy
