My soon to be ex-husband use to work for several EMS companies. He misused one of their gas cards, and was sent to jail and has a felony for it. Now he is telling me that a few of his friends who are directories for the EMS department are allowing him to take course to become a Paramedic. My ex-husband has a history of child abuse also. It scares me that these friends of his who are directories of EMS are allowing him to get back into the field. With my ex husband having a felony can he become a Paramedic.

He probably could get hired. It would depend on the requirements of the department/company hiring him. Not sure what the hiring process is like for Paramedics but the felony would probably come up during the process. A felony on your record is never a good thing when it comes time to get hired.

when he gomes up for paramedic licensure at the end of the course, he may not be able to get licensed if he has a felony, especially a felony involving children. this does vary from state to state, so call the board of EMS in your state to find out the rules.

Technically yes they can hire him, but it would be very hard to get a job in that field with a felony record.

He might not get a city job. But there are plenty of private EMS companies, plus casinos, retirement houses, ect.

So he may have a shot of getting hired.
