I'm a student trying to create a group to help 3rd world countries. Can anyone give me advice for starting?

I'm thinking of gathering writing utensils and sending it to a certain school in Africa. I can also do the same thing with clothing. If neither of these work, I could also gather money and create a well in a city with minimal water access ... can anyone help me with getting started? what should I do first?

Well, maybe first start by naming your organization, then try to make it into a 501(c)3 charity (nonprofit) so that you can have fundraisers and then do all you can to promote your charity and make campaigns to recruit volunteers.

Yea, move there and teach them that the USA isn't really full of non-caring, politically bigoted, holier than thou individuals, that the rest of the world thinks we are.
Nice sanctimonious thing your advocating, but the reality of your gesture is really quite to be expected from the non-informed, politically naive and somewhat out-of-touch-with-the-world view. Those people you are speaking of wont receive the "help" your talking about, that will be dissipated among the " PEOPLE-IN-AUTHORITY", and NEVER among the ones who would benefit. This question alone makes me wonder what school you attend....grade school?

With all due respect, you should help people in your own country first. Trust me, the picture isn't rosy for all people here. The idea is alright, but you should help your own first and foremost.

You want to help them financially or spiritually?
Make a good start from yourself,either financially or spiritually.
