Submissive Jesus - YouTube: I've discovered that it all boils down to brain wiring: your brain is wired to worship magic or it isn't, either it's wired to utilize logic or it isn't, either it's analytical of myths or it isn't.
Atheists are not close-minded to reason although they are immune to that parasite known as The Invisible Sky Chappie virus which most gullible people catch at some point during their lives - often it's passed on from parents.
It is particularly virulent in poorer societies where people are crushed by despotic rulers and other horrendous circumstances in which they find themselves but it seems to flourish quite well in some developed countries although it seems to be dying out in most of the West. Of course, the exception seems to be US society where this virus has evolved into a particularly nasty strain. The main carriers are charismatic conmen who get on the television and make outrageous claims about the benefits of the virus whereas the more intelligent realise it's all a ruse to keep the gullible giving more and more money to the scammers.
Patness: The reality remains, sadly, that people flock to religion because reality by itself is insufficient to support them.
So, we are not becoming more closed minded – we just don’t entertain or respect your garbage as much as we used to and that would be mainly cos y’all don’t respect our point of view, or right to NOT believe in The Invisible Sky Chappie.
You seem to think we’re weak or somehow impaired cos we don’t share your fantasy, your delusion; however, we wonder how it is possible that sentient beings could possibly believe in something for which there is NO evidence.

As an agnostic bordering on atheist, I consider myself close-minded to any suggestion of the supernatural for which repeatable and reproducible scientific evidence can not be offered. On the other hand, I have no objection to you believing what you will, supernatural or otherwise, as long as you do not assert that your belief is the only 'right" one and try to impose this belief and attendant code of conduct on me.
IMO, hard-core fundamentalists in general do not pass this criteria.

i don't know but here's my question to you:
How open minded are you about flying pigs?
Will you listen to some dumbass reasoning or would you wait to see the flying pig for yourself?
How about if i told you some guy rose up from the dead, will come back to take people away? How ridiculously unreal is that? Have you ever seen ANYONE die and wake up from the dead and talk to people? In the history of earth, have you ever heard of people going up to the skies without a plane ticket?
You know what on second thought, i think i will take the flying pigs instead. It actually sounds more plausible
By the way santa claus just rang the doorbell. Can you please get it?

Pkease answer this Mr Beasly-- Are you a christian? All an athiest believes is that god does not exist. To date, there has not been ANY proof or evidence of god or gods, one way or another. there has not been any toenail clippings of god found, or any cellestial newspaper headlining that god is a fairy tale. As long as we are bound by a physical body, mankind will NEVER understand fully what god is or what god isn't, or if there even IS one. As for myself, I DO believe in higher power, though not in a mainstream way. I'm sure EVERY athiest would be VERY open minded to the existance of a higher power if there were any...

I find you BOTH to be close minded. Frankly I'm getting tired of all the questions that begin with "Ateist, WHY... " and Christians, WHY...". Why don't BOTH of you just settle down a bit and stop your silly arguments and baiting each other? Just agree to disagree and stop dragging everyone else who has REAL spiritual questions that they'd like discussed into you arguments in here? Neither of you is right, not when you spew your hatreds of each other the way you have been.

When you have fundamentalists demanding that you come to the Lord, it's easy to push back and close your mind. The Bible tells us that they will know believers and lovers of God by their love for each other and of others Not their fundamentalist positions.

My plea to Atheists:
"A danger sign of the lapse from true skepticism in to dogmatism is an inability to respect those who disagree."
— Dr. Leonard George
(some of us are becoming the very thing we complain about: rigid dogmatists, incapable of considering alternative viewpoints We have become arrogant praying to the gods of reason).
My plea to Believers:
"Where all think alike, none thinks very much."
— Walter Lippman
(i.e. dissent is healthy).

So I am closed-minded for not buying YOUR fairy tale about a magical invisible super-being living in the sky--which has NO evidence whatsoever to back it up?
Then you're closed-minded for not believing in mermaids. Or unicorns. Or Santa Claus. Or leprechauns.
I am completely open-minded to the possibility that God does exist, and I will be perfectly willing to believe he exists when you can show me proof that he exists. (I am also willing to believe that mermaids, unicorns, Santa Claus, and leprechauns exist if someone can show proof of them.)

They haven't. They simply don't believe in a god. Most are quite open-minded about most things. They might be open to any evidence that a god exists if such evidence could be provided. As yet, that evidence is still not present.
