Christianity is already on the decline. It is not really compatible with all of the scientific, cultural, philosophical, and intellectual advances of the last three centuries.
Christianity will die out eventually, and our grandchildren's grandchildren will be shocked that anyone could believe it, just like we think of the old Greek gods.

I wouldn't say intelligence is 'evolving' as such, at least, no faster than any other trait.
However, as we understand the natural world better, the God that is the explanation for the inexplicable shrinks. God no longer causes lightning, or illness, or earthquakes (or if he does, he does so entirely in accordance with natural laws). There are other reasons that people believe in God, however, from the sublime to the ridiculous.
