No you do not need to be Catholic. If you have one practicing Catholic godparent that is enough. The godmother ,who would be called a "Christian Witness',must be a believing and practicing Trinitarian Christian.

You do not need to be Catholic but the godparent(s) do.

Actually only one Godparent is necessary. You can have one godfather, one godmother, or one of each.

The role of the godfather and/or godmother is very important. They must be firm Catholic believers, able and ready to help the newly baptized—child or adult—on the road of Christian life.

To ensure this, a godparent must be at least 16 years old (for maturity's sake), fully initiated (having received Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist), be someone other than the legal parents, and one who leads a life in harmony with the Church.

If you have only one Catholic godparent, then you may have a non-Catholic participate as an official witness. The witness will be responsible for setting a good example for the baptized person while the Catholic godparent will share the specifics of the Catholic faith.

With love in Christ.

The short answer is that if you are willing to have the child brought up Catholic, you do not need to be one yourself. However, the godmother must be a baptized and confirmed Catholic.

Hello

Last time I checked just one of you has to be catholic. That would be the Godmother whose duty it is to help encourage the child along in the Catholic faith.

You not being Catholic won't get in the way of your child's Baptism. Both godparents do need to be Catholics.

You don't have to be Catholic, as the mom. I believe it is required that one godparent be Catholic. I have one non-Catholic godparent myself.

Yes.
I remember my mom is catholic and they would not baptize me because my dad was not catholic and would not convert, and they weren't married in a church.

you don't have to be catholic but a lot of the time, the god parents need to be practicing catholics.

Marriage is not recognized in the catholic church unless both people are catholic and both parents are suppose to be catholic.
